The Cask of Amontillado

The Cask of Amontillado

The story is set in a nameless Italian city in an unspecified year and is about the narrator's deadly revenge on a friend who, he believes, has insulted him. The story's narrator, Montresor, tells the story of the day that he took his revenge on Fortunato, a fellow nobleman, to an unspecified person who knows him very well. Angry over some unspecified insult, he plots to murder his friend during Carnival when the man is drunk, dizzy, and wearing a jester's motley.

  • Horrifically beautiful Work

I had to read this Short Story in my honors Freshmen ELA class. I thought it was a morbid story about Petty Revenge. But I love how The Narrator is so passionate about getting revenge. It makes you truly think about what Fortunato said or did to insult Him. Overall I really Enjoyed reading this.

  • A Good Read

I am and always have been fascinated by the work of Mr. Poe. His writing style has always intrigued me, for it has good taste in words. Mr. Poe doesn’t use simple words to describe things. He uses a wide range of vocabulary and that is what makes his work so fun to read for me. I am always learning new and unusual words when I read his work. My vocabulary is nowhere near as impressive as his, but I hope someday that it will be.
