Father Sergius

Father Sergius

Father Sergius becomes a monk and ultimately ends up as a hermit. Father Sergius struggles to find peace and, if not happiness, then at least contentment. But he is always disillusioned and ultimately unsatisfied. Only in the end does he find his way by letting go of what he struggled to attain all his life, i. e. to be better than everyone else in whatever he did, and settle for the mundane.

A book that makes you think.

  • Marvelous

Tolstoy is an indescribably great author, and this book is typical of other works I have read from him. My only complaint may be the abrupt ending, but perhaps this is the author's way of teaching us a lesson somehow relevant to that learned by Sergius.
