Rogue Rules
When a young lady is ruined, her friends vow none of them will ever be ensnared by a scoundrel again. They will resist every gentleman’s charms even—and especially—if it means gaining a reputation for being impossible to woo. It will take extraordinary rogues to break their rules...
Because the Baron Broods
Despite growing up isolated with a self-involved father in Cornwall, Tamsin Penrose possesses a perennially positive outlook and sees the best in everything. So, when her father says he’s found a potential groom for her, she is optimistic and perhaps even a little excited—until she meets an enigmatic, unsmiling baron. Intrigued by his serious nature, she’s desperate to turn his frown upside down.
Isaac Deverell, Baron Droxford is unprepared for the storm of cheerfulness that is Miss Penrose, nor can he deny that she makes him—a perpetually dour brooder—feel good. He doesn’t deserve the friendship of someone so charming and kind, let alone the burgeoning attraction between them. However, when her father’s overzealous suitor arrives and won’t take no for an answer, Isaac protects her in a scandalously public fashion.
Forced to propose marriage, Isaac can’t allow Tamsin to see past his grumpy, protective shield. For then, she’ll know she’s done the unimaginable and married a rogue with a despicable secret. Tamsin believes they can find happiness, but will she still feel the same when his past is revealed?

This story was too sweet and a bit boring.

Why is there a connection between a grumpy baron and a find the positivity in any situation? Tamsin doesn’t let her upbringing interfere with her sunny disposition. Isaac is quite the opposite. They meet at a mutual friend’s yearly end of summer get together. Circumstances throw them into numerous, funny and supportive situations. Ms. Burke has a way of transporting the reader into her stories and this book is no exception. The characters are developed with individual personalities that are easily relatable.

“Because the Baron Broods” by Darcy Burke is the second book in her Rogue Rules series. I love a series about a bunch of friends, and have enjoyed both books in this series and look forward to more. Darcy Burke’s characters are expertly developed, you understand what they are feeling and why, and are drawn into their world. A ray of sunshine meets the quiet, brooding baron who would rather work than socialize. Tamsin Penrose lives in a very quiet town and looks forward to her yearly trip to the seashore with her best friends. Isaac Deverell, Baron Droxford feels the opposite although he attends the yearly get together with his friends, he stays to himself working and after a few days usually goes home. Isaac had an unfortunate incident from his past that has shaped his temperament and soured his inclinations towards love and marriage. He has kept the incident secret and no one but his best friend knows the reason for his brooding personality. Opposites attract and when he meets Tamsin her sunny disposition draws his attention. Unfortunately, before they can explore where their relationship might go, a situation occurs that is observed and misinterpreted so Isaac announces they are marrying. I cannot say enough about the beautiful way Darcy Burke has written Tamsin and Issac. You truly understand the difficulties they have had because of their life experiences, and family dynamics but their journey from friends to lovers is sweet, touching, and passionate. If you love a good Regency romance, I recommend you read this book. The story had a little of everything that makes a book enjoyable, great characters, friendship, self reflection, personal growth, romance and passion. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

He’s got a secret… I really liked Isaac, even though he has a huge secret. When he was seventeen, he fathered a son with a laundress. His uncle took care of the situation and now, Isaac is a baron who works a lot. I liked that he felt regret and that he didn’t deserve a family. He didn’t let himself be happy. Tamsin is happy and sunshine-y to Isaac’s grumpy. I enjoyed this book and this series. This is book two. Recommend.

Isaac Deverell, Baron Droxford, is not fond of socializing, but comes to a friend’s house party each August. Tamsin Penrose is somewhat isolated in Cornwall where she manages her father’s household. She enjoys visiting her friends and grandmother in Weston every August. Isaac and Tamsin are opposites. He is broody and she is a ray of sunshine. Despite this, the two of them are attracted to each other. When an unwanted suitor approaches her inappropriately, Isaac steps in. They wed, but pain and secrets, especially on Isaac’s side put a wedge between them. Tamsin is patient, but there are tough obstacles between them and happily ever after. The second story in the Rogue Rules is a well-written, touching story with strong characters. An entertaining addition to the series. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
