Three teenagers arrested after boy, 14, stabbed to death

Two teenage boys have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 14-year-old boy was found fatally stabbed in north Manchester, police have said.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police responded to reports of a serious assault on Nevin Road, New Moston, at around 5pm on Sunday. They found a 14-year-old boy with stab wounds and despite the efforts of the emergency services, including air ambulance staff, he later died in hospital.

Potential suspects were quickly identified by the force, who arrested a 37-year-old woman on suspicion of assisting an offender at a nearby address. Two boys aged 14 and 16 were arrested on suspicion of murder a short time later.

A 14-year-old girl was arrested overnight on suspicion of assisting an offender. All four remain in custody for questioning.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, a resident said the teenager ran into their home in New Moston. "He just came through the door and said 'I've been stabbed'," they told the newspaper.

"We sat him down on a chair and phoned an ambulance. He just kept saying, 'I don't want to die'." Detective Chief Inspector John Charlton said the incident "will have shocked and saddened the local community, and distressed anyone who witnessed it".

The force was able to "quickly identify potential suspects" after "significant resources" were allocated to the investigation, he said. "We are still trying to establish the full circumstances around the incident - there will be a large police presence and several scenes in place while we continue to investigate this horrific incident.

"The boy's family are being supported by our officers and we are determined to give them the answers they deserve." DCI Charlton appealed to the public for any "information, doorbell or dashcam footage, or eyewitness accounts" from anyone who was in the area at the time..
