'Sex predator' who spiked women's drinks at club before attacking them jailed

A clubber who drugged two women before sexually attacking them while they were incapacitated has been jailed for nine years.

Kenan Baki, 46, sexually assaulted one victim and raped another after spiking their drinks at Society in Kirkcaldy, Fife, in September 2023. Judge Lord Cubie said: "Your conduct was reprehensible and such conduct strikes fear into the heart of every woman who chooses to go out." CCTV played by prosecutors at Baki's trial showed the predator prowling the nightclub in search for women.

The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) said Baki slipped an unknown substance into his first victim's drink before sexually assaulting her while she was under the influence of the drug. Lord Cubie said: "You claimed in evidence that you were motivated to protect her, but you abandoned her when it was clear that staff had noticed your conduct and had intervened to prevent an escalation.

"I wish to commend the careful and exhaustive police work which identified your actions towards this complainer, who did not realise that she had been subject to your dangerous actions." Baki then targeted a second woman and led her to his nearby barber shop after she took unwell at the club. Jurors were shown CCTV footage of the woman speaking to Baki before she passed out in a chair.

He was then captured carrying the woman while she was unconscious into the back of the shop, where he raped her. Lord Cubie said: "The images captured on the CCTV from the barber's shop will stay with all who watched it.

"The rape complainer's loss of consciousness came in an immediate and shocking instantaneous collapse, which elicited no reaction from you because it was plainly expected and what you had planned." Police Scotland launched an investigation after being alerted to his activities and built a case against him using evidence from CCTV cameras. Detective Inspector Graeme Dursley said: "Baki is a sexual predator who drugged these women so he could take advantage of them for his own sexual gratification.

"His actions are despicable and he now faces the consequences. "I'd like to commend the strength of the women throughout the investigation and court process.

I hope the outcome will bring them some form of justice." He was given an 11-year extended sentence at the High Court in Kilmarnock on Tuesday, with nine years in jail and two years on licence once released back into the community.

Baki was additionally placed on the sex offenders' register indefinitely and was banned from contacting his victims. Fiona Kirkby, procurator fiscal for high court sexual offences, said: "Kenan Baki poses a significant danger to women through his sexually depraved and predatory actions.

"The prosecution case showed he pursued these two women before intentionally drugging them so he could take advantage of their vulnerability. "He has now been held accountable for this horrific behaviour, which should send a clear message to all those who seek to sexually harm others.".
