Police probing 'unexplained' death of 11-year-old schoolgirl

An investigation has been launched into the "unexplained" death of an 11-year-old girl.

The schoolgirl fell ill in Helensburgh, Argyll and Bute, and was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow on Sunday, where she died the following day. Police Scotland said it was alerted to the death at about 11.40am on Monday.

A force spokesperson added: "The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances." The youngster was a pupil at Hermitage Academy. Argyll and Bute Council said it is providing support to the girl's family, as well as staff and students at the school.
