Premier Miton picks veteran banker Williams as next chair

The London-listed asset management group Premier Miton is this week set to name one of the City's leading financial institutions bankers as its next chairman.

Sky News has learnt that Christopher Williams, whose career as an adviser encompassed stints at Citigroup, Credit Suisse and Perella Weinberg Partners, is to succeed Robert Colthorpe as Premier Miton's chair. Sources said the appointment of Mr Williams was likely to be announced alongside the fund manager's full-year results on Thursday.

Mr Williams acted as an adviser to the Treasury during the banking industry meltdown in 2008, which led to the bailout of Britain's biggest banks and the launch of a huge insurance operation called the Asset Protection Scheme.

He also advised on some of Europe's biggest banking mergers prior to the financial crash. At Premier Miton, he will oversee an asset management group with roughly £10bn of assets under management.

The company was formed from the merger in 2019 of Premier Asset Management and Miton Group. Its shares have risen by about 7% over the last year, leaving it with a market capitalisation of roughly £95m.

A spokesperson for Premier Miton declined to comment..
