'Disgraceful' vandals felled Christmas tree hours after lights switch-on

Vandals have been labelled "disgraceful" after felling a Christmas tree, that stood in a village for more than a decade, just hours after its lights were switched on.

Denise Brooks, manager of Shotton Community Centre, County Durham, told Sky News she could not believe it when she heard the tree had been chopped down. "All of the memories and the history of the tree, it's like...

just gone. I think it's been disgraceful to tell you the truth.

I'm really hurt," she said. The tree in Shotton Colliery was chopped down between 10pm and 11pm on Wednesday, causing "huge upset.
