A man has been detained at JD Vance's Ohio home after breaking a window and trying to get into the house.
The vice president said in a post on X that "a crazy person tried to break in by hammering the windows". Agents assigned to Mr Vance initially detained the man on scene in the East Walnut Hills area, Cincinnati, before police officers took him into custody for causing property damage.
Mr Vance thanked Secret Service agents and police for responding quickly. Secret Service personnel had heard a loud noise at the home around midnight and found a person who had broken a window with a hammer and was trying to get into the house, two unnamed law enforcement officials told Associated Press.
The man had also vandalised a Secret Service vehicle on his way up the home's driveway, one of the officials said. Footage taken by WLWT, an affiliate of Sky News US partner network NBC, shows damage to a window.
Mr Vance and his family had spent the week in Cincinnati, but they were not at the property at the time of the incident, according to Secret Service spokesman Anthony Gugliemi. "We weren't even home as we had returned already to [Washington] DC," Mr Vance confirmed on X.
