Storm Goretti hits Europe with landmarks covered in snow

Western Europe was hit by cold weather today with landmarks like the Eiffel Tower covered in snow.

Flights were cancelled, train services disrupted and roads were blocked as Storm Goretti swept across the region. In the French capital, Paris, parks and its iconic Eiffel Tower were pictured layered by snow this morning.

The tarmac at Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport was also seen covered in snow, with Air France aircraft stationed. Bus services in Paris were also suspended.

UK weather latest: Amber 'danger to life' wind alert among new Met Office warnings France's civil aviation authority had asked airlines to cut 40% of flights at the main airport and 25% out of the smaller Orly airport. French officials also banned trucks and school buses from the roads in a third of all administrative departments, most in the north half of the nation.

In Brussels, some flights were cancelled, with the de-icing of runways and the wings of aircraft causing delays. Cold weather warnings ahead of today had covered vast parts of France and Britain.

In London, the water in Little Venice, Paddington, was snowed over with people also seen walking through snow in areas like Westminster. Elsewhere in Britain, a school bus crashed into a ditch after slipping on black ice in Chilmington Green, Ashford.

Later in the morning, the Met Office issued an amber "danger to life" wind alert for Storm Goretti. Frankfurt, Germany, was another city seen snowed over from this morning.
