This Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS) manual, Joint Publication JP 5-0 Joint Planning December 2020, provides planning considerations for the Armed Forces of the United States’ interaction with governmental and nongovernmental agencies, multinational forces, and other interorganizational partners. This publication is the keystone document for joint planning. It provides the doctrinal foundation and fundamental principles that guide the Armed Forces of the United States in planning joint campaigns and operations. Joint planning is the process of identifying military ways and means (with associated risk) the President can integrate with other instruments of national power (diplomatic, informational, and economic) to implement strategic guidance. The crises and contingencies the joint force faces cut across multiple combatant commands, domains, and functions. Global integration addresses transregional, alldomain, and multifunctional challenges.
