Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret

The iconic coming-of-age novel from the beloved author, Judy Blume, whose “name has long been synonymous with young adult fiction” (Los Angeles Times). Now a major motion picture starring Rachel McAdams and Kathy Bates!

Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret is very special.” Amy Poehler (Vulture)

“Generations of teenage girls have grown up reading the tales of teenage angst told by beloved author Judy Blume.” Mashable

Margaret Simon, almost twelve, has just moved from New York City to the suburbs, and she’s anxious to fit in with her new friends. When she’s asked to join a secret club she jumps at the chance. But when the girls start talking about boys, bras, and getting their first periods, Margaret starts to wonder if she’s normal. There are some things about growing up that are hard for her to talk about, even with her friends. Lucky for Margaret, she’s got someone else to confide in . . . someone who always listens.

  • Are you there god? It’s me, Margaret. Review.

Margaret Simon, eleven years-old, has lived her entire life in New York City. Yet one day her parents decide to move out to the small suburb of Farbrook, New Jersey. For her own part, Margaret is about to enter the sixth grade at a brand new school, and much like the typical adolescent girl, she begins to worry about issues such as boys, bras, and periods. She often speaks to God about these things, but privately. After the Sample Summary: Margaret joins a secret club with Nancy Wheeler along with Gretchen Potter and Janie Loomis. They make up rules. Nancy says they must wear bras, ( Margaret doesn’t wear one nor Janie ) Gretchen saids they have to talk about periods, Janie makes a boy book. Margaret says meeting on certain days a week. They talk about Laura Danker, a developed girl who is rumored for going behind the A & P. Margaret purchases a training bra, she sees Janie shopping for a bra as well. Spoiler: Margaret is worried shes not normal for being a late bloomer, and then in the end, she gets a period and realizes she is normal. She also struggles with religion, as many people tell her different things ( OF THERE PREFERENCE NOT MARGARETS ) Great book, not as inappropriate as the back of the book states, 5 stars. Age 8+

  • Are You There, God? It’s Me, Margaret.

Margaret is worried about many things that other young teens are processing. I think young girls would find comfort in the fact that they have company on braving new benchmarks as they enter the teen years. Why this is on banned book lists is beyond me!
