American Auto Trail

American Auto Trail

This installment in the American Auto Trails series follows U.S. Highway 40 across the length of Maryland, from the Mason Dixon Line the state shares with Delaware, to the long mountains of the Alleghanies. U.S. 40 follows the route of the Cumberland, and later the National, Road. This was the opening to the Ohio Valley and the American West. Rich in colonial and civil war history, this route provides an exciting look at our early country, during war times as well as in more peaceful ones.
