Soledad Barnes has her life all planned out. Because, of course, she does. She plans everything. She designs everything. She fixes everything. She’s a domestic goddess who's never met a party she couldn't host or a charge she couldn't lead. The one with all the answers and the perfect vinaigrette for that summer salad. But none of her varied talents can save her when catastrophe strikes, and the life she built with the man who was supposed to be her forever, goes poof in a cloud of betrayal and disillusion.
But there is no time to pout or sulk, or even grieve the life she lost. She's too busy keeping a roof over her daughters' heads and food on the table. And in the process of saving them all, Soledad rediscovers herself. From the ashes of a life burned to the ground, something bold and new can rise.
But then an unlikely man enters the picture—the forbidden one, the one she shouldn't want but can't seem to resist. She's lost it all before and refuses to repeat her mistakes. Can she trust him? Can she trust herself?
After all she's lost . . .and found . . .can she be brave enough to make room for what could be?

Such a beautiful love story.

This Could Be Us by Kennedy Ryan is more than a romance — it’s a masterfully told story of resilience, rediscovery, and redemption. As someone who hasn’t read a romance novel in a while, this book reminded me why I fell in love with the genre to begin with. Kennedy Ryan creates characters that feel so real, you root for them like family. Soledad’s journey as a stay-at-home mother was beautifully depicted. Her role in holding her family together, often without recognition or appreciation, reflects the real labor that so many women experience. Kennedy does an incredible job showing how motherhood is work — emotional, physical, and spiritual. Soledad sacrifices her own dreams to support her husband’s career, only to be betrayed in the most devastating ways: emotional neglect, infidelity, financial scandal, and ultimately abandonment. Yet, through all the loss, this is a story about becoming. Enter Judah Cross — a father, co-parent, and deeply intentional man who contrasts everything Soledad’s husband failed to be. His slow, supportive love is gentle but unwavering. He doesn’t try to save Soledad; he simply sees her. Their connection unfolds with a tension that feels honest, patient, and deeply earned. It’s the kind of romance that builds trust instead of burning fast and fading. By the end, Soledad reclaims her voice — not just through love, but through purpose. Watching her rise as a creative entrepreneur and finally prioritize herself was so rewarding. The friendship she shares with Yasmen and Hendrix (whose story is next!) adds even more richness and makes you want to stay in the Skyland universe forever. Kennedy Ryan writes with warmth, complexity, and intention. She brings emotional intelligence to the page in a way few authors do. This Could Be Us is tender, real, and unforgettable. I’m officially a fan.

This book is absolutely wonderful. While i do find it to be a little overly wordy, it was such a sweet story. and very relatable. i finished it in less than 48 hours. Soledad is a sweetheart, and judah is dreamy and perfect. almost too perfect. do men like him exist? (black ones? cause, you know… lol) i so enjoy the love and passion that they share. it reminds of that between my boyfriend and me. and the complexities of dating with children, but the underlying message is to always do what makes you happy. especially after you’ve sacrificed so much for others. i hope we all learn this lesson, to love ourselves and others. even if it’s scary.
