How Not to Hate a Duke

How Not to Hate a Duke

From USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Haymore comes an engaging and playful enemies-to-lovers romance about what happens when a high-minded heiress clashes with the dastardly duke next door…

Georgiana Milford may be a wealthy heiress without title, but even she has her limits. It’s vexing enough to be courted by every fortune-hunting noble during the Season—goodness, you’d think she was hiding a gold mine beneath her skirts! But this is not to be condoned. Because during a merry two-week party at a lord’s country home, she’s forced to endure her father’s greatest enemy and the most wretched duke in all of England: the Duke of Despots.

Theo St. Clair has hardly been the Seventh Duke of Desborough long enough to straighten his cravat, yet the ton are already nipping at his bootstraps. Starting with the Milford family, who are convinced he’s exactly like his blaggard of a father. Unfortunately, nothing tempts the scoundrel in him more than the prospect of kissing the prim-and-proper-ness right off Georgiana Milford’s lovely lips...

Now they’re trapped together, forced to wear polite smiles while they trade acidic barbs and pretend to ignore the growing tension charging the air between them. But while there is danger in ruin, it’s the devastating secret her family has been hiding that will shatter Georgiana’s world…

  • 3.5 Stars!

3.5 Stars! The main characters are Georgina Milford and Theo St.Clair, the Duke of Desborough. I really liked Theo from the get go but Georgina on the other hand, came off a bit too much like a ‘female dog’, if you get my meaning. Because I didn’t like Georgina, it was hard to root for them to work & she was just so off-putting and bratty, I really didn’t care for her. Luckily she got better but the damage was done. As much as I liked Theo, he was also a bit of a coward, I think. His father was a p.o.s & everyone in the village is leery of him, so what does he do to fix it? Runs away and goes to a 2 week long house party, of course! Maybe that makes them a perfect couple. I did enjoy some surprises near the end, the steamy ‘sexy times’, and was glad they finally got their HEA ending. All in all a decent read with some past main characters from previous books. I’d read this author again and hope she has a book for Georgina’s sister & Theo’s brother in the works next! Fingers crossed. *I received this book at no charge & I voluntarily left this review.*

  • Fixing Things Isn’t Easy

Their families are neighbors who have been at odds for as long as Georgiana Milford can remember. She doesn’t know exactly why, but she knows they hate each other. Theo St. Clair, Seventh Duke of Desborough, is paying in spades for the way his cruel father treated, well, everybody. Theo wants nothing more than to make amends for the mess his father made, but everyone believes he is just like his father, including the Milfords. Attending the same house party forces the two of them to interact. As time passes, Georgiana sees a different side to Theo, or rather she sees the real Theo. They fall in love, but things don’t go well. When Georgiana’s father stops their wedding, she is devastated and Theo finds that what he must do to make things right is prove himself. This is a delightful enemies-to-lovers story. Georgiana and Theo are stubbornly distrusting of each other at first, but as time goes by it is obvious they are perfect for one another. The story has some angst, even a bit of drama, and secrets from the past. There is also fun, witty banter, romance, a chance for reconciliation, and at last a happy ending. I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed it.
