1653年9月1日〜1706年3月3日

バロック期の作品として最も知られ、今もなお様々な曲作りの土台をなす1曲「(パッヘルベルの)カノン」(1690年頃)を作った人物。
1653年、ニュルンベルクでワイン商の息子として生まれ、若い頃から音楽を学ぶ。
1673年、ウィーン・シュテファン大聖堂の次席オルガニストの職に就く。1677年、アイゼナハの宮廷オルガニストに。
その後、エアフルトのプレディガー教会、シュトゥットガルトのヴェルテムベルク宮廷などで音楽家として要職を歴任し、晩年はニュルンベルクの聖ゼーバルト教会のオルガニストに就いた(1695年〜)。
1706年、故郷のニュルンベルクで亡くなる。
作品としては「Musical Thoughts on Deth」「Magmificat Fugues」「Hexachodum Apollinis」などが。
長男のウィルヘルム・ヒエロニムスもニュルンベルクで父の後継オルガニストに就任、同じくカール・テオドールもアメリカへ渡り作曲家として活躍した。
