National Avenue

National Avenue

National Avenue, published in 1927, is a lesser-known novel by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Booth Tarkington. Through a series of interconnected stories, the book explores life in an American town along a growing industrial corridor. Tarkington’s sharp eye for social dynamics and changing values captures the tension between tradition and progress. Though more subdued than his Growth Trilogy, National Avenue reflects Tarkington’s enduring themes: middle-class ambition, generational conflict, and the costs of modernization.
