North Dallas Forty

In a society in which major league sporting events have replaced Sunday worship as the religion of choice, North Dallas Forty appears like a desecration at the altar. In this film, directed by Ted Kotcheff (The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz), the National Football League is revealed to be more about the money than the game. Nick Nolte is North Dallas Bulls pass-catcher Phillip Elliott, whose cynicism and independent spirit is looked upon as troublesome by team coaches Johnson (Charles Durning) and Strothers (G.D. Spradlin) and team owner Conrad Hunter (Steve Forrest). Elliot, at the end of his career and wise to the way players are bought and sold like cattle, goes through the games pumped up on painkillers conveniently provided by the management. His teammates include savvy quarterback Maxwell (Mac Davis) and lunk-headed defensive lineman Jo Bob Priddy (Bo Svenson), who deal with the impersonality and back-biting of the game through off-field diversions. When the Bulls management benches Elliot after manipulating him to help train a fellow teammate, Elliot has to decide whether there is more to life than the game that he loves.

Unexpectedly, Gibney was also there in 2012 when Armstrong admitted to doping, following a federal criminal investigation, public accusations of doping by his ex-teammates, and an investigation by the US Anti-Doping Agency, that led USADA's CEO, Travis Tygart, to conclude that Armstrong's team had run 'the most sophisticated, professionalized and successful doping program that sport has ever seen.

2022 World Series Champions: Houston Astros

"Welcome to Space City, home of the Houston Astros™ – your 2022 World Series® champions! The Astros defeated the Philadelphia Phillies™ in six games after winning 106 regular season games and sweeping through their first two rounds of Postseason™ play.Perennial Fall Classic™ contenders, the Astros looked to Level Up in 2022 after narrowly missing a championship in 2021. The first move was to bring back legendary Manager Dusty Baker, who perfectly understood how to mix incredible instincts and experience with the Astros undeniably successful analytical approach. Then came bolstering the roster. Justin Verlander dominated in his return to an already stellar rotation after missing most of the previous two seasons with an injury, and their rookie shortstop Jeremy Peña flashed brilliance during his inaugural campaign. These key returns and additions propelled the rock-solid foundation of Jose Altuve, Yordan Alvarez, Alex Bregman, Ryan Pressly, Kyle Tucker, and Framber Valdez. The Astros would deliver one of the finest seasons in MLB® history, then methodically dismantle the Seattle Mariners™ in the ALDS™ and the New York Yankees™ in the ALCS™. An immaculate 7-0 run to start the Postseason set up a showdown with the red-hot, hard-hitting Philadelphia Phillies. Philadelphia would jump out to a 2 games to 1 lead, but the Astros lifted off behind a stellar bullpen that posted the lowest ERA in Postseason history; the second no-hitter in World Series history; and sensational rockets off the bats of Alvarez, Bregman, Tucker, and Peña, who claimed Willie Mays World Series MVP honors. With the Game 6 victory at Minute Maid Park™, the World Series was won in front of the home crowd for the first time since 2013. Baker earned his first World Series ring as manager, and the city of Houston and its Astros fans celebrated with an out of this world parade."

The World According to Lance

After winning the Tour de France seven times in a row, Lance Armstrong might well have been the greatest sportsman of all time. Not only had he won the most coveted of all cycling races, he had done so after recovering from advanced testicular cancer. Lance Armstrong maintains he has never used performance enhancing drugs. He claims he has never tested positive in hundreds of drug tests. Many who know him well now say he is lying.
