Tombstone

In the western boomtown of Tombstone, Arizona, crime rules the streets. Violence is a way of life, and law and order have surrendered to the ruthless gunmen who wreak havoc and terror on the innocent. ...until Wyatt Earp rides into town. After retiring as marshall of dodge city, Wyatt has come to tombstone to settle down and run a business. However, he is soon compelled against his wishes to take a stand against the lawless, whose malevolent actions threaten to consume the entire town. Despite his longing for a peaceful life, Wyatt has no choice but to strap on his holster and pin the U.S. marshall's badge to his vest. Along with his friend, the lethal and unpredictable Doc Holliday, and brothers Morgan and Virgil, he sets out to wrest control of the city from the clutches of anarchy. On a stark, windswept day seething with tension, these four men stride toward a battle they neither wanted nor expected. All hell breaks looses as Earp and his men come face to face with the evil that grips tombstone, and they are drawn into one of the bloodiest feuds in the history of the old west.

High Plains Drifter

Clint Eastwood's second film as a director finds the celebrated action star returning to his familiar Old West stomping grounds and his internationally acclaimed role of "The Man With No Name." This time, The Stranger (Eastwood) mysteriously appears out of the heat waves of the desert and rides into the lawless, sin-ridden town of Lago. After making a name for himself with a string of blazing gun battles, The Stranger is hired by the townspeople to provide protection from three ruthless gunmen just out of jail. The Stranger quickly proceeds to paint the entire town bright red, rename it "Hell," and supply divine retribution in the fiery, pulse-pounding climax of this acclaimed western shoot-em-up.

McCabe & Mrs. Miller

Academy Award winners Warren Beatty and Julie Christie star in director Robert Altman's enduring vision of the American Western. A gambler and a prostitute go into business together in a grimy Western mining town as they cater to the vices of the morally bankrupt residents. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance

Open Range

For a Few Dollars More

If A Fistful of Dollars began the Eastwood legend, then its sequel, For a Few Dollars More, cemented it. Clint Eastwood makes his return as “The Man With No Name,” this time teaming up with a rival bounty hunter (Lee Van Cleef as “The Man In Black”) to take down a ruthless outlaw and his band of renegades. This gritty, “hard hitting” (Variety) western masterpiece would be followed one year later by The Good, The Bad and The Ugly to complete director Sergio Leone’s brilliant Spaghetti Western Trilogy.

High Noon

True Grit (2010)

Following the murder of her father by hired hand Tom Chaney, 14-year-old farm girl Mattie Ross sets out to capture the killer. To aid her, she hires the toughest U.S. marshal she can find, a man with "true grit," Reuben J. "Rooster" Cogburn. Mattie insists on accompanying Cogburn, whose drinking, sloth, and generally reprobate character do not augment her faith in him. Against his wishes, she joins him in his trek into the Indian Nations in search of Chaney. They are joined by Texas Ranger LaBoeuf, who wants Chaney for his own purposes. The unlikely trio find danger and surprises on the journey, and each has his or her "grit" tested.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

Paul Newman and Robert Redford set the standard for the buddy film with this western classic. Sundance (Redford) is a mighty quick draw, and his partner Butch (Newman) is a gifted get-rich-quick schemer. With the law on their trail, the two pack their guns, and, along with Sundance's girlfriend (Katharine Ross), head for Bolivia, away from the men trying to bring them to justice – and death.

Red River

In this epic tale, a ruthless Texas rancher is determined to get his huge herd of cattle to the market…and to have his revenge on his liberal minded son who, rebelling against his father's growing authoritarianism, takes the cattle to Abeline just over the newly opened Chishom Trail. Unforgiven

The Professionals (1966)

Burt Lancaster and Lee Marvin headline the top-notch, rip-roaring Western action/adventure, "The Professionals." Four soldiers of fortune are hired by a wealthy Texan oil baron (Ralph Bellamy) to rescue his kidnapped wife (Claudia Cardinale), who's been spirited actress the Mexican Border by a band of mercenaries led by Jesus Raza (Jack Palance). The four rugged professionals, each regarded as a specialist in his selected field - an expert marksman and tracker (Woody Strode), the explosives master(Lancaster), horse handler (Robert Ryan) and one skilled in tactics and weaponry (Marvin) - make their way across the treacherous landscape to retrieve the beautiful kidnappee, but discover all is not what it seems in the explosive climax. Excellent performances from an all-star cast, Maurice Jarre's haunting musical score and surprising plot twists make "The Professionals (1966)" a true classic. "The Professionals (1966)" garnered three Academy Award(r) nominations; two for Richard Brooks (Best Direction and Best Adapted Screenplay) and another for the esteemed Conrad Hall (Best Cinematography). The filmmakers received the same nominations the following year for the true crime classic, In Cold Blood.

The Magnificent Seven

An American remake of Akira Kurasawa's Japanese classic, "The Seven Samurai." A bandit terrorizes a small Mexican farming village each year. Several of the village elders send three of the farmers into the United States to search for gunmen to defend them. They end up with 7, each of whom comes for a different reason. They must prepare the town to repulse an army of over 100 bandits who will arrive wanting all of their food.

Slow West

At the end of the nineteenth century, 16-year-old Jay Cavendish (Kodi Smit-McPhee) journeys across the American frontier in search of the woman he loves. He is joined by Silas (Michael Fassbender), a mysterious traveler, and hotly pursued by an outlaw (Ben Mendelsohn) along the way.

Appaloosa

Academy Award-nominee Viggo Mortensen ("A History of Violence," "The Lord of the Rings" franchise) stars as Everett Hitch and Academy Award-nominee and Golden Globe-winner Ed Harris ("A Beautiful Mind," "The Truman Show") stars as Virgil Cole in this Western directed by Harris himself. The paths of two gunmen tracking an escaped murderer and that of a beautiful, dangerous widow with an agenda of her own collide in the lawless western town of Appaloosa. In Appaloosa, they find a small, dusty town suffering at the hands of a renegade rancher with so little regard for the law that he has taken supplies, horse and women for his own and left the city marshal and one of his deputies for dead. Cole and Hitch, itinerant lawmen, are used to cleaning up after opportunistic thieves, but this time they find an unusually wily adversary--one who raises the stakes not by playing with the rules, but with emotions.

Rio Lobo

This fifth and final collaboration between John Wayne and director Howard Hawks is an action-filled Western starting with a spectacular train robbery. The train's colonel jails the enemy leaders but the three men later become friends when the Civil War ends. Together, they seek the Union traitors responsible for a string of Confederate train robberies. It's a mission that culminates in a rousing shoot-'em-up finale.

A Fistful of Dollars

A pancho-clad, cigar-chewing, mysterious 'Man with No Name' rides into a small frontier town which is embroiled in a struggle for power between two families. He hires himself out as a mercenary, first to one faction and then to the other, with no regard for honor or morality. He plays both sides against the middle, collecting his money, until he eventually destroys both, leaving the town to the bartender, coffin-maker and bell ringer as he rides off into the desert from whence he came. Based on Akira Kurosawa's 1961 film Yojimbo.

The Old Way

Academy Award® winner Nicolas Cage stars in his first-ever Western as Colton Briggs, a cold-blooded gunslinger turned respectable family man. When an outlaw and his gang put Colton and his family in peril, Colton is forced to take up arms with an unlikely partner — his 12-year-old daughter (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) — in this action-filled film that builds toward its fateful showdown with pulse-pounding suspense.

First Cow

Two travelers, on the run from a band of vengeful hunters in the 1820s Northwest, dream of striking it rich, but their tenuous plan to make their fortune on the frontier comes to rely on the secret use of a wealthy landowner's prized dairy cow. With their scheme landing somewhere between honest ingenuity and pure grift, renowned filmmaker Kelly Reichardt finds a graceful and deeply moving origin story of America in their unlikely friendship and fragile life at the margins.

Mclintock! (Producer's Cut)

Wayne shows off his funny side in this 1963 western, a comedy inspired by THE TAMING OF THE SHREW. Starring as wealthy cattle baron G.W. McLintock, Wayne shows a real sense of comic timing in several scenes filled with slapstick humor. After his wife (Maureen O'Hara) and daughter leave him for the East, McLintock attempts to win them back. The dynamics between O'Hara and Wayne are the strong suit of this film, the actors having worked together previously on THE QUIET MAN. As this is by no means a revisionist western, McLintock's chauvinistic attempts to "tame" his wife fit within the problematic ideology of the larger western genre. The ultimate example of this comes at the end of the film when McLintock settles his marital dispute by publicly "spanking" his wife in what is now a notorious cinematic moment.

Comanche Moon: The Second Chapter In the Lonesome Dove Saga

Texas Rangers Woodrow Call and Augustus McCrae pursue three outlaws, Comanche war chief Buffalo Hump, Comanche horse thief Kicking Wolf and a Mexican bandit king. Now in their middle years, they also struggle with their personal lives, Gus with Clara Forsythe, the love of his life, and Call with Maggie Tilton, the young prostitute who loves him. Meanwhile their partners-in-arms Deets, Jake Spoon and Pea Eye Parker help the Rangers protect the advancing western frontier from the defiant Comanches who are determined to defend their land and way of life.

Hondo

Celebrate the 65th Anniversary of an American movie classic—‘Hondo.’ Wayne stars as the titular hardened cavalry scout who finds his softer side upon meeting a frontierswoman and her son. Often mentioned as one of Wayne’s personal favorite films, ‘Hondo’ was shot in breathtaking color in Arizona, Utah and Mexico.

Dead for a Dollar

In 1897, veteran bounty hunter Max Borlund is deep into Mexico where he encounters professional gambler and outlaw Joe Cribbens, a sworn enemy who Max sent to prison years before. Borlund is on a mission to find and return Rachel Kidd, the hostage wife of a wealthy Santa Fe businessman. Discovering that Mrs. Kidd has actually fled from an abusive marriage, Max is ultimately faced with a choice: finish the dishonest job he’s been hired to accomplish or stand aside while ruthless mercenary outlaws and his long-time rival close in on the town that has been a temporary sanctuary. A final showdown becomes subject to fate and fortune. Max and his partner Alonzo Poe, also a Buffalo Soldier, have nothing to gain if they resist - nothing save honor.

The Alamo (1960)

In 1836, 187 Americans and Texicans stood against the attack of Santa Ana's 7,000-man army for more than 13 days. This epic film deals with how those men happened to be inside the mission--now a converted fort--in the small village of San Antonio, Texas, and how this led to the tragedy at The Alamo. The historical players at the fort include Davy Crockett (John Wayne--who also produced and directed the film with the uncredited assistance of John Ford), James Bowie (Richard Widmark), Sam Houston (Richard Boone) and Col. William Travis (Laurence Harvey). The film is historically faithful (as few films are) to the historical events. The final battle scene (attributed to John Ford) is a classic of its kind. The film's celebrated music is by Dimitri Tiomkin.

Utah Blaine

Adapted from a novel by Louis L'Amour, the story concerns the efforts of gunslinger Blaine to save a group of ranchers from an outlaw gang. When one the ranchers is killed, Utah finds himself half-owner of a valuable spread, placing him directly in the line of fire along with his attractive "business partner" Angie Kinyon (Susan Cummings). Ray Teal is all snarls as the outlaw leader, while former boxer Max Baer Sr. does a brief turn as a slow-witted hooligan.

The Undefeated (1969)
