Irish police are investigating the deaths of three people following a "serious incident" in County Louth.
Emergency crews were called to a house in Tallanstown on Monday morning, where the bodies of two men and a woman were discovered. A man in his 30s has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Police say an investigation is ongoing. The suspect is currently being detained at a station in the Garda North West Region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
The incident is believed to be self-contained as officers are not looking for anyone else. Police said in a statement: "Investigations are ongoing.
[We] have no further information at this time." The scene has been cordoned off for forensic work. The offices of the coroner and state pathologist have been notified.
Sinn Fein TD for Louth, Ruairí O Murchu, said: "My first thoughts, and those of everyone else, are with the loved ones of this family who have been violently killed in their home. "This is a truly shocking and appalling incident which has absolutely stunned the whole community all over County Louth.
"The fact that three members of one family seem to have died in dreadful and violent circumstances on a Monday morning in a quiet and rural area of Mid-Louth is appalling. "I would appeal for anyone with information to go to the Gardaí immediately, and ask that people do not speculate on this incident online or on social media." "I would ask people not to speculate until we know the facts. Our thoughts are with the friends, family and the community.".
