Man charged with murder of his parents and brother after their bodies found at family home

A man has been charged with the murder of his parents and brother in Ireland.

Robert O'Connor, 31, appeared in court over the deaths of his father Mark O'Connor, 54, mother Louise, 56, and 27-year-old brother Evan, who has additional needs. Their bodies were found at the family's home in Drumgowna, outside Tallanstown village in Co Louth, on Monday morning.

At a special sitting on Tuesday evening, Drogheda District Court heard O'Connor made no reply when police put the three counts of murder to him. Dressed in a grey coloured sweatshirt and black tracksuit bottoms, he was expressionless as he appeared in the dock.

O'Connor has been with mental health services since he was 22, the court heard. Defence solicitor Paul Moore applied for a psychiatric assessment for his client, and also for legal aid.

There was no application for bail. O'Connor was remanded into custody by Judge Stephanie Coggans.

The defendant is due to appear in the same court via videolink on 6 October..
