Prisoner charged with murder of fellow inmate appears in court

A prisoner charged with the murder of a fellow inmate at a high-security prison has appeared in court.

Nathaniel Reece, 44, appeared at Cambridge Crown Court via prison video-link, where a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf after he left the room partway through proceedings. He is accused of the murder of John Mansfield, 63, at Whitemoor prison, near March, Cambridgeshire, on 13 April.

A post-mortem examination of Mansfield, formerly from Manchester and found dead, recorded that he died of a head injury. The 63-year-old had been jailed for life with a minimum term of 30 years in 2007 for the murder of his neighbour Ann Alfanso, also 63.

Reece, formerly from Islington, north London, is due to stand trial at Cambridge Crown Court from 1 June 2026..
