Two people die in house fire

Two people have died in a house fire in north London.

Fire crews were called to a blaze on the ground floor of a semi-detached property on Albemarle Road in Barnet shortly before 1.45am. A man and woman were removed from the house by firefighters but died at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by police and London Fire Brigade (LFB). "The fire was located on the ground floor, in a semi-detached house of two floors," LFB said.

"A man and a woman were removed from the property by firefighters. "Sadly, both were declared dead at the scene by paramedics from the London Ambulance Service." Four fire engines and about 25 firefighters responded to the blaze, which was brought under control by 3.14am.

Crews from Barnet, Southgate and Finchley fire stations attended the scene. This breaking news story is being updated and more details will be published shortly.
