A train has derailed in Switzerland, leaving at least five people injured.

The BLS AG train, travelling from Goppenstein to Hohtenn, derailed at around 7am on Monday morning. An avalanche may have swept across the tracks shortly before the incident, police said.

One of the injured was taken to hospital in Sion, and four others were treated at the scene, but did not require further medical attention.
