A Night in the Luxembourg

A Night in the Luxembourg

Remy de Gourmont was a novelist, poet, playwright, and philosopher who was one of the most-penetrating contemporary critics of the French Symbolist movement. His prolific writings, many of which were translated into English, disseminated the Symbolist aesthetic doctrines.
“A Night in the Luxembourg” was published in 1906, and is the book, at once criticism and romance, which is the best introduction to M. de Gourmont's very various works.  Most of the book is written in dialogue, in this ancient form.
Remy de Gourmont possessed one of the acutest and freest minds of his own age. He received no public honours, died poor, but since his death his books have rapidly achieved a wide circulation which continually increases. We are glad to present you one of his literary works. Enjoy the reading.
