Planes clip wings on airport runway

The wings of two planes collided on the runway at Manchester Airport on Friday, disrupting some flights.

EasyJet confirmed that two of its aircraft, one travelling to Paris and the other to Gibraltar, "came into contact" while still on the ground at Manchester on Friday morning. "EasyJet can confirm that the wing tips of two aircraft came into contact whilst taxiing to the runway at Manchester Airport this morning," the airline said in a statement.

"The aircraft returned to stand to disembark customers who have been provided with refreshment vouchers whilst replacement aircraft are arranged to operate the flights." An investigation has been launched, with the airline adding: "The safety of our passengers and crew is our highest priority." Other flights at Manchester were disrupted. Airport officials briefly closed the runway while the aircraft were examined..
