Lysistrata

Lysistrata

An adaption of the of the fifth Century BC Greek comedy by Aristophanes. Several english versions have been used as sources, but in particular I acknowledge the major elements borrowed from the 1953 version by Doris Alsastos. The songs have been converted to rhyming couplets and perhaps could be set to music for a stage production. I salute the Greek playwright, because he created, so many centuries ago, a piece of theatre more at home in our times with its feminist and pacifist messages. Lysistrata struts the boards with the confidence and strength of a Germaine Greer and the courage of a Rosa Luxemburg.
