Build the Life You Want

Build the Life You Want

You can get happier. And getting there will be the adventure of your lifetime.

In Build the Life You Want, Arthur C. Brooks and Oprah Winfrey invite you to begin a journey toward greater happiness no matter how challenging your circumstances. Drawing on cutting-edge science and their years of helping people translate ideas into action, they show you how to improve your life right now instead of waiting for the outside world to change.

With insight, compassion, and hope, Brooks and Winfrey reveal how the tools of emotional self-management can change your life―immediately. They recommend practical, research-based practices to build the four pillars of happiness: family, friendship, work, and faith. And along the way, they share hard-earned wisdom from their own lives and careers as well as the witness of regular people whose lives are joyful despite setbacks and hardship.

Equipped with the tools of emotional self-management and ready to build your four pillars, you can take control of your present and future rather than hoping and waiting for your circumstances to improve. Build the Life You Want is your blueprint for a better life.

  • Wonderful book

I stumbled upon this book! It is so good! Read and reread it! Not a daytime tv watcher so I didn’t see him on Oprah but love this book! Maybe check and see if he is on You Tube!

  • The Essence Of “How” To Get Happier

Happiness isn’t a destination. It is a journey. A journey that requires work and understanding. Arthur C. Brooks (and Oprah Winfrey) provide the understanding of what work will be needed in order to get a “happy life”, or as Oprah puts it a “happier life” because we will always be on the path toward happiness. In the book, they discuss the pillars — family, friends, work, and faith — that are needed for the foundation to start the journey upon the path toward that happy life we are seeking.

I heard about this book on a podcast and it is excellent. It is concise and insightful. Great for all ages. I want to read it again because it is just so useful in so many areas of our lives.

  • Great how to and how not to book!

Really enjoyed the exercises and studies as I add to my tool kit, each one being a tool that helps us become a better human. If artificial intelligence and technology are taking over some of the different items we handle, this is a great book in our toolkit on how to become better humans.
