Battles and Leaders of the Civil War

Battles and Leaders of the Civil War

Scribners and The Century Company ran a series of magazine articles in which participants in the Civil War (Generals, privates, women, laymen, engineers etc.) related their experiences during the war.  The series was so popular (multiplying subscriber base exponentially) that these articles were combined into a coherent, highly illustrated set of 4 Volumes entitled “Battles and Leaders of the Civil War”, printed in 1887.  This is a complete epub version of Volume 1 with some enhancements (such as 19th Century definitions).  There are 65 stories in roughly sequential order but the reader can pick and choose as each story is complete.  This is the type of book that historians read and extrapolate in modern Civil War books.
