The Miracle of Zobéide
Pierre Mille was french writer, journalist, and diplomat. His name is associated with the Prix Pierre Mille (prize for journalism), awarded by the Union of the French press for the best journalism in the print or audiovisual French media. Pierre Mille is the father of the radio journalist Clara Candiani. Among critics he was know as “French Kipling”. Miller saw himself as creating and promoting novels which captured colonial realities by recounting in detail the lives of colonials and providing realistic portrayals of indigenous peoples living in a vast colonial empire.
“The Miracle of Zobéide” is a popular work of the Pierre Mille. When a Christian and a Muslim cannot agree on the power of God, one offers a challenge to the other. Is it really God at work, first making the turtle called Zobeide larger, and then smaller until she disappears all together?
