The Spotter: a Short Story

The Spotter: a Short Story

It is 1964 and at the age of eleven, The Spotter finds himself in a school he doesn’t like and a target for bullying. He doesn’t like sport and he doesn’t fit in - plus his hair is too long!
He lives for the weekends and his one escape – trainspotting – riding the rails behind the steam locomotives that are now in their final years of operation, and that will soon be sent to the scrap yards.
He gains strength and confidence from his pastime, as he confronts those who would otherwise seek to crush him – and in so doing, he also realises that there may be something else worth living for after all the steam engines are gone.
If you are of a certain age, you will find that this short story is full of those little details you may possibly remember for your own childhood!
