Marry Him

Marry Him

An eye-opening, funny, painful, and always truthful in-depth examination of modern relationships and a wake-up call for single women about getting real about Mr. Right.

You have a fulfilling job, great friends, and the perfect apartment. So what if you haven’t found “The One” just yet. He’ll come along someday, right?

But what if he doesn’t?  Or what if Mr. Right had been, well, Mr. Right in Front of You—but you passed him by? Nearing forty and still single, journalist Lori Gottlieb started to wonder: What makes for lasting romantic fulfillment, and are we looking for those qualities when we’re dating? Are we too picky about trivial things that don’t matter, and not picky enough about the often overlooked things that do?

In Marry Him, Gottlieb explores an all-too-common dilemma—how to reconcile the desire for a happy marriage with a list of must-haves and deal-breakers so long and complicated that many great guys get misguidedly eliminated. On a quest to find the answer, Gottlieb sets out on her own journey in search of love, discovering wisdom and surprising insights from sociologists and neurobiologists, marital researchers and behavioral economists—as well as single and married men and women of all generations.

  • Realistic and helpful.

I enjoyed reading this very comprehensive book about dating, love, and having realistic expectations about marriage. The book utilized the view points of people from various age groups, backgrounds, and walks of life, and ultimately all the expert and layperson advice boiled down to the same point: happiness exists for those who are not so overly critical that they miss it. I am 28 and a self admitted perfectionist. I found the reminders of this book to be timely and very helpful as I approach my thinking about the future. While every piece of advice may not have been applicable to me, there are still plenty of gems to be found for everyone at every stage of relationship. I will definitely be encouraging my friends to read this book, and I encourage anyone reading this review to do the same.

I stumbled upon this book via FB ad and I couldn’t put it down! I shared it to all of my girlfriends who are now in their late 20s! They need this NOW!!! Before it’s too late, thank you for sharing this book with the world! I’m a gay man so it’s a little different for me but I GET IT. Thank you

  • Read this book

I was having doubts in my first year of marriage, wondering if I had made the right decision — this book whipped me back to reality — yes, I had chosen the things that were most important, thankfully. This is an important book to read not only because if you’re single and are looking for a partner, but also if you’re in a relationship/married and are questioning if you should stick it out. Great read.
