Princeps' Fury

Princeps' Fury

In the acclaimed Codex Alera novels, #1 New York Times bestselling author Jim Butcher has created a fascinating world in which the people of Alera use their unique bond with the elemental forces of nature for protection. But even nature may not be enough to stave off the coming storm…

Tavi of Calderon, now recognized as Princeps Gaius Octavian and heir to the crown, has achieved a fragile alliance with Alera’s oldest foes, the savage Canim. But when Tavi and his legions guide the Canim to their lands, his worst fears are realized. The dreaded Vord—the enemy of Aleran and Canim alike—have laid waste to the Canim homeland. And the Alerans find themselves trapped alongside their former enemies.

Meanwhile, war-torn Alera rebuilds while politicians and nobles vie for power. But from the south comes the news: the Vord have come to Alera. For a thousand years, Alera and her furies have withstood every enemy, and survived every foe. But the thousand years are over...

  • When Heart and Reality Collide

Book five in the Codex Alera series is primarily an action-packed continuation of the story of the Alerans and the other people with which they co-exist as they fight an enemy from the off-world. The Vord are in both Cane and Aleran territory, taking advantage of the mutual hatred that has existed as long as anyone remembers. Will efforts to unify against the Vord prove successful or futile? Tavi is a man in hiding to buy the people of Alera time to get used to the idea that he is both alive and that his lineage is authentic. While Tavi has gone North with the Cane and Isana has gone to the Wall to broker a truce with a different enemy, Amara and Bernard head South to get desperately needed answers about the Vord. Will the Alerans move past their differences to confront their mutual enemy or continue to in-fight and weaken themselves in their time of greatest need? Like all Jim Butcher novels, I have read, there is continuously escalating violence, destruction, and death. This story has nothing peaceful, and it races from beginning to end. You wonder if anyone can survive and be out of breath as though you are part of the story. I look forward to the next and final chapter in Tavi’s saga.
