Down the Darkest Road

Down the Darkest Road

A woman will do whatever it takes to uncover the truth about her missing daughter in this taut thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Tami Hoag.

California, 1990—four years after Lauren Lawton’s sixteen-year-old daughter disappeared, the world has given up the girl for dead. Lauren’s husband took his own life. Her younger daughter Leah is still looking for what’s left of her childhood. But Lauren never surrendered. She knows who took her child, and there’s not a shred of evidence against him.

Seeking a fresh start, Lauren and Leah move to idyllic Oak Knoll. So does Lauren’s suspect. And suddenly it feels like history is about to repeat itself.

Leah is turning sixteen, and Oak Knoll has a cunning predator on the hunt. But as sheriff’s detective Tony Mendez and his team sift through the circumstances of an increasingly disturbing case, a stunning question changes everything they thought they knew. . . .

This story was a page turner. I couldn’t put it down. I hope there will be more stories from Oak Knoll!

  • I couldn’t finish.

I like most of Tami Hoag’s books…but this one really missed the mark. Very little plot in between page after page of a not very likable main character continue to wallow in grief about her daughter’s abduction four years earlier…I get it, its just not entertaining. And after the fourth or fifth silly reference to a character saying they could solve the case if only the developing technology was there…I just had to let the story go.

  • Loved it.

Fifteen years ago, I read every Tami Hoag suspense book I could find. Since then I've discovered other authors (Sandra Brown, Greg Iles, etc.). In the last three months I returned to Tami Hoag and have read every novel I missed in those 15 years! I think she's a phenomenal writer and I wish she would write more books faster. The series about Oak Knoll was terrific. I recommend you read them in order.

  • Great book.

Her characters were good. I thought that the ending could have had a little more excitement to it. I. Also thought there should have had more romance with the detective. Giving it a little spunk! I love her books! I will read more of her work. Chris
