Elements of Style

The original 1919 edition of the classic writing style guide. This brief text was written by Prof. William Strunk, Jr. for use in his English class at Cornell University. It is substantially different than the expanded and rewritten 1959 edition by E. B. White that most people are familiar with.

Because it's copyright expired long ago, the 1919 original is now in the public domain.

This digital edition is unchanged from the original except for formatting, the typefaces used, and a few other design elements meant to bring the text gracefully onto a digital platform. The only addition is a brand new back of the book index made specifically for this digital edition.
