The War of the Worlds

The War of the Worlds

The War of the Worlds is one of the earliest and most enduring examples of science fiction alien invasion narratives. Published in 1898, the novel depicts a catastrophic assault on Earth by Martians, whose superior technology overwhelms humanity’s defenses. Set largely in southern England, Wells’s chilling portrayal of helplessness and destruction critiques colonialism, evolution, and human arrogance. His vivid, journalistic style lends realism to the incredible events, making this work not just a gripping story, but a powerful commentary on survival, civilization, and human frailty.
