NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • “Ron Kessler appears to get everything first.”—Slate
As in a play, presidents, vice presidents, and presidential candidates perform onstage for the public and the media. What the nation’s leaders are really like and what goes on behind the scenes remain hidden. Secret Service agents have a front-row seat on their private lives and those of their wives and children. Crammed with new headline-making revelations, The First Family Detail by New York Times bestselling author Ronald Kessler tells that eye-opening, uncensored story.
The First Family Detail reveals:
• Vice President Joe Biden regularly orders the Secret Service to keep his military aide with the nuclear football a mile behind his motorcade, potentially leaving the country unable to retaliate in the event of a nuclear attack.
• Secret Service agents discovered that former president Bill Clinton has a blond mistress—code-named Energizer by agents—who lives near the Clintons’ home in Chappaqua, New York.
• The Secret Service covered up the fact that President Ronald Reagan’s White House staff overruled the agency to let unscreened spectators get close to Reagan as he left the Washington Hilton, allowing John W. Hinckley Jr. to shoot the president.
• Because Hillary Clinton is so nasty to agents, being assigned to her protective detail is considered a form of punishment and the worst assignment in the Secret Service.
“Kessler’s such a skilled storyteller, you almost forget this is dead-serious nonfiction.”—Newsweek
Reviews
This book kept me captivated throughout, going into detail about how the USSS operates and how it handles their missions and protective duties.

It seems that some people don't realize how books containing compiled, interview based information, work. You copy and paste researched and interviewed text. Some info will seem familiar if you've read his previous books, but some info will seem new. If it's seems gossipy, that's because it is intended to be so. You don't exactly hear these kind of stories on the mainstream, info-filtering media. I'm wondering how many readers are simply upset that their beloved, pedestal-residing presidents and families were actually horrible people. While the ones that came off looking good, are not exactly the most retrospectively popular presidents.

Kessler writes like he is positioning himself for president for a potential USSS Union.

I found this book to be a real "page turner" with such a wide variety of information about the Secret Service and much, much more. The author puts you, the reader, right in the midst of fascinating circumstances covering the entire spectrum of the profession. I came away feeling almost as if I had experienced the lifestyle myself. I recommend this to both male and female readers as either sex would gravitate to such an "inside look" at the lives of so many important people. Truly an enjoyable book that I could scarcely put down!

how come people don't take this seriously? these quotes in the book are from real people, the author doesn't just make things up. the truth is hard to read, trust me I know.
