A Million Steps

A Million Steps

Kurt Koontz thought he was well prepared for his 490-mile walking trip on the historic Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route in Spain. He was fit and strong. He had a good guidebook and all the right equipment. His pilgrim passport would grant him access to the shelter of hostels along the way. But all that, however helpful, did not begin to encompass the grandeur of his external or internal adventure. A Million Steps climbs over the high meadows of the Pyrenees, quests through the unceasing wind of the Meseta, and dances in the rains of Galicia. While following the yellow arrows that mark the route, Koontz also navigates through his personal history of addiction, recovery, and love. With outgoing humor and friendliness, he embraces the beauty of the countryside and joyful connections to other pilgrims from around the world. Part diary, part travelogue, A Million Steps is a journey within a journey all the way to the Cathedral de Santiago de Compostela and beyond.

One Day Stresa

One Day Stresa

You don’t need a car to escape from the business, the traffic, the congestion, the fog in wintertime and the afa, the humid heat, in summer, of the city to a wonderful world of lakes, mountains, castles and good food: just take the train and, sometimes, the boat as recommended in this itinerary to the northern Lake Maggiore. There are extensive descriptions and photos of the attractions for you to use during your visit. This itinerary covers the Northern part of Lake Maggiore, going back and forth between Piedmont and Lombardy and ending in Switzerland. The itinerary starts from Stresa, and ends in Locarno. The boat trip takes about one hour forty five minutes with the hydrofoil, but you will savor the lake much better with the normal slow boat that takes three hours. Various options are described for the return, including trains on the Eastern Lombardy side of the lake to Milan and to Malpensa Airport.

I treni aiutano a pensare. Da Washington DC a Washington State, 8.000 km in treno, in bus, in automobile.

Heart and Sole

In April 1988, a 37-year-old restaurant manager embarked on a 1,600 mile trek from Wyoming to Nashville, Tennessee, in hopes of singing on the stage of country music's Grand Ole Opry. Accompanied by a young dog, and financed by the revenue he earned along the route, he battled blizzards and heat waves, sickness, wild dogs, renegade bikers, blisters and parasites through the states of Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee for 84 days. On July 23, 1988, his childhood dream came true.Heart and Sole: the road I chose is David Stewart's haunting account of his extraordinary journey and its triumphant outcome.

Kyoto (Japan) - Wink Travel Guide

Kyoto (Japan) - Wink Travel Guide

Kyoto was the capital of Japan for over a millennium, and carries a reputation as its most beautiful city and the nation's cultural capital. However, visitors may be surprised by how much work they will have to do to see Kyoto's beautiful side. Most first impressions of the city will be of the urban sprawl of central Kyoto, around the ultra-modern glass-and-steel train station, which is itself an example of a city steeped in tradition colliding with the modern world.Nonetheless, the persistent visitor will soon discover Kyoto's hidden beauty in the temples and parks which ring the city center, and find that the city has much more to offer than immediately meets the eye.Wink Travel Guides introduce you to the best world travel destinations, in a clear and concise way, illustrated by photos.
