INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER"Searing. Powerful. Needed." —Oprah“Sometimes a single story can change the world. Unbound is one of those stories. Tarana’s words are a testimony to liberation and love.” —Brené BrownFrom the founder and activist behind one of the largest movements of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, the "me too" movement, Tarana Burke debuts a powerful memoir about her own journey to saying those two simple yet infinitely powerful words—me too—and how she brought empathy back to an entire generation in one of the largest cultural events in American history.Tarana didn’t always have the courage to say "me too." As a child, she reeled from her sexual assault, believing she was responsible. Unable to confess what she thought of as her own sins for fear of shattering her family, her soul split in two. One side was the bright, intellectually curious third generation Bronxite steeped in Black literature and power, and the other was the bad, shame ridden girl who thought of herself as a vile rule breaker, not as a victim. She tucked one away, hidden behind a wall of pain and anger, which seemed to work...until it didn’t.Tarana fought to reunite her fractured self, through organizing, pursuing justice, and finding community. In her debut memoir she shares her extensive work supporting and empowering Black and brown girls, and the devastating realization that to truly help these girls she needed to help that scared, ashamed child still in her soul. She needed to stop running and confront what had happened to her, for Heaven and Diamond and the countless other young Black women for whom she cared. They gave her the courage to embrace her power. A power which in turn she shared with the entire world. Through these young Black and brown women, Tarana found that we can only offer empathy to others if we first offer it to ourselves.Unbound is the story of an inimitable woman’s inner strength and perseverance, all in pursuit of bringing healing to her community and the world around her, but it is also a story of possibility, of empathy, of power, and of the leader we all have inside ourselves. In sharing her path toward healing and saying "me too," Tarana reaches out a hand to help us all on our own journeys.

The Rocket That Fell to Earth

“Pearlman’s book develops a stark, unsparing picture of Clemens’s life that surpasses anything that’s come before.” —Boston GlobeNew York Times bestselling author Jeff Pearlman reconstructs pitcher Roger Clemens's life—from his Ohio childhood to the mounds of Fenway Park and Yankee Stadium—to reveal a flawed and troubled man whose rage for baseball immortality took him to superhuman heights before he crashed down to earth.A fearless, hard-nosed Texan with a 98-mph fastball and a propensity to throw at the heads of opposing hitters, Roger “the Rocket” Clemens won 354 games, an unprecedented seven Cy Young Awards, and two World Series trophies over the course of twenty-four seasons. But the statistics and hoopla obscured a far darker story—one of playoff chokes, womanizing (including a long-term affair with a teenage country singer), violent explosions, steroid and human growth hormone use. . . and an especially dark secret that Clemens spent a lifetime trying to hide: a family tragedy involving drugs and, ultimately, death.

Sunita Williams 287 Days Space Odyssey

Sunita Williams 287 Days Space Odyssey

This book is about a woman Sunita Williams and the long, winding road that took her from Earth to the stars. It's about the grit it takes to train for years, the silence of space, the thrill of floating hundreds of kilometers above your home and the quiet moments that make you reflect on everything you've ever known.Over 287 days aboard the International Space Station, Sunita didn't just perform spacewalks and carry out scientific work-she lived a life very few ever get to experience. But behind the space suit is a person with fears, doubts, laughter, discipline and dreams that feel oddly familiar. This book tries to capture all of that-not just the mission details, but the human side of space travel. It's not written to impress, but to connect. To show that even the most extraordinary journeys are made by ordinary people who simply refuse to give up.If you've ever looked at the night sky and wondered what it's like to be out there, maybe this book will bring you a little closer.

«Reaccionarios, dicen.

The Path to Power

The Path to Power

The Years of Lyndon Johnson is the political biography of our time. No president—no era of American politics—has been so intensively and sharply examined at a time when so many prime witnesses to hitherto untold or misinterpreted facets of a life, a career, and a period of history could still be persuaded to speak. The Path to Power, Book One, reveals in extraordinary detail the genesis of the almost superhuman drive, energy, and urge to power that set LBJ apart. Chronicling the startling early emergence of Johnson’s political genius, it follows him from his Texas boyhood through the years of the Depression in the Texas hill Country to the triumph of his congressional debut in New Deal Washington, to his heartbreaking defeat in his first race for the Senate, and his attainment, nonetheless, of the national power for which he hungered.   We see in him, from earliest childhood, a fierce, unquenchable necessity to be first, to win, to dominate—coupled with a limitless capacity for hard, unceasing labor in the service of his own ambition. Caro shows us the big, gangling, awkward young Lyndon—raised in one of the country’s most desperately poor and isolated areas, his education mediocre at best, his pride stung by his father’s slide into failure and financial ruin—lunging for success, moving inexorably toward that ultimate “impossible” goal that he sets for himself years before any friend or enemy suspects what it may be. We watch him, while still at college, instinctively (and ruthlessly) creating the beginnings of the political machine that was to serve him for three decades. We see him employing his extraordinary ability to mesmerize and manipulate powerful older men, to mesmerize (and sometimes almost enslave) useful subordinates. We see him carrying out, before his thirtieth year, his first great political inspiration: tapping-and becoming the political conduit for-the money and influence of the new oil men and contractors who were to grow with him to immense power. We follow, close up, the radical fluctuations of his relationships with the formidable “Mr. Sam” Raybum (who loved him like a son and whom he betrayed) and with FDR himself. And we follow the dramas of his emotional life-the intensities and complications of his relationships with his family, his contemporaries, his girls; his wooing and winning of the shy Lady Bird; his secret love affair, over many years, with the mistress of one of his most ardent and generous supporters . . .   Johnson driving his people to the point of exhausted tears, equally merciless with himself . . . Johnson bullying, cajoling, lying, yet inspiring an amazing loyalty . . . Johnson maneuvering to dethrone the unassailable old Jack Garner (then Vice President of the United States) as the New Deal’s “connection” in Texas, and seize the power himself . . . Johnson raging . . . Johnson hugging . . . Johnson bringing light and, indeed, life to the worn Hill Country farmers and their old-at-thirty wives via the district’s first electric lines.   We see him at once unscrupulous, admirable, treacherous, devoted. And we see the country that bred him: the harshness and “nauseating loneliness” of the rural life; the tragic panorama of the Depression; the sudden glow of hope at the dawn of the Age of Roosevelt. And always, in the foreground, on the move, LBJ.   Here is Lyndon Johnson—his Texas, his Washington, his America—in a book that brings us as close as we have ever been to a true perception of political genius and the American political process.

Po wojnie pamiętnik odzyskał Otto Frank – ojciec Anne.

Lewis and Clark - The Expedition Journals

Lewis and Clark - The Expedition Journals

The Lewis and Clark Expedition ranks as one of the greatest voyages of discovery in human history.  Because of the scientific and geographical sightings made between 1804-1806, it stands in significance alongside the travels of Marco Polo, Christopher Columbus, Magellan, Cook, and the Apollo 11 mission to the moon. Captain Meriwether Lewis, commander of the Corps of Discovery, is ordered by President Thomas Jefferson to keep a diary of the daily events, scientific observations, and measurements of latitude and longitude along the way.  The expedition begins in May, taking the 33-person Corps of Discovery from St. Louis, Missouri to the Pacific Ocean and back again (a distance of over 8,000 miles) by 1806.  Among other things, it results in the initial mapping and exploration of the Great Plains and Pacific Northwest, and the description and classification of over 100 never-before seen species of fauna and flora.  Lewis' descriptions of the wildlife, plants and physical geography along the route of the expedition show him to be a gifted naturalist; perhaps one of the finest in history. Lewis and Clark return from their 30-month long expedition as national heroes.  MERIWETHER LEWIS (1774–1809) was an American explorer, soldier, politician, and public administrator, best known for his role as the leader (along with William Clark) of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, also known as the Corps of Discovery. WILLIAM CLARK (1770–1838) was an American explorer, soldier, Indian agent, and territorial governor best known for his role as the leader (along with Meriwether Lewis) of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, also known as the Corps of Discovery.

Cesare

Cesare

The Guardian
