What Happens Next

Be Prepared, Not ScaredAre we living in the end times? If so, what does that mean for you?In contrast to the confusion and anxiety that often comes with this topic, Max Lucado believes God wants us to be prepared, not scared; informed, not intimidated. He writes: "The future is not frightening if you know the future. And you can know the future when you know who holds it."What Happens Next is an optimistic, accessible, and nonsensational guide to what the Bible says about heaven's time line that will empower you to face the future with faith. Max takes you on a well-researched overview of what God's Word says, exploring the following four big ideas that provide a solid foundation for understanding God's eternal plan:We were made to reign with Christ.God has made and will keep his promises.Heaven has a time line.A golden era-the millennium-awaits God's children.Plus, Max takes you on a journey of the time line of history, examining essential milestones such as the rapture, the seven years of tribulation, and the glory of heaven.Whether you find yourself in the "I can't wait," "I'm almost ready," or "I'm not sure about all of this" camp, you will be encouraged to ponder God's promises for the future. In Max's signature encouraging style, he reminds us, "It's all about hope. It's all about him."

Hidden Voices

Hidden Voices

Ive written this book to give voice to the thousands of hidden voices in the Catholic Church that feel the way I do and to give hope, albeit just a little, to those who struggle with the Catholic Churchs stance on homosexuality. What follows are some of my reflections on what it means to negotiate life as a gay priest in the Catholic Church, to struggle with self and hierarchy, and to move from silence and shame to hope and forgiveness. The Scripture

The Scripture

In this issue of the Free Grace Broadcaster, we have twelve articles on the Holy Scriptures. The first article contains the paragraph from the 1689 Baptist Confession on the Scriptures. A. W. Pink then shows us our need of divine revelation. In his second article, Pink demonstrates how the unity of the Bible attests to its divine authorship. Then Thomas Boston provides some more scripture proofs of its divine origin. J. I. Packer gives us a very practical section on our need of Scripture as our guide. Reverence for God's Word is the subject of John Jewel's chapter.  Spurgeon follows with a section on God's claim to be heard. The Scriptures are our counselors as Charles Bridges aptly describes. The work of meditation on the Scripture is a lost art. This is the subject of I. C. Herendeen's chapter. Bridges follows with a section on the preciousness of Scripture. Spurgeon encourages those who tremble at the Word. A. W. Tozer concludes with a short section on the need for application in exposition.

Through the Magic Door

Through the Magic Door

To celebrate Peter's birthday, Frederick Warne is publishing new editions of all 23 of Potter's original tales, which take the very first printings of Potter's works as their guide. The aim of these editions is to be as close as possible to Beatrix Potter's intentions while benefiting from modern printing and design techniques. The colors and details of the watercolors in the volumes are reproduced more accurately than ever before, and it has now been possible to disguise damage that has affected the artwork over the years. Most notably, The Tale of Peter Rabbit restores six of Potter's original illustrations. Four were sacrificed in 1903 to make space for illustrated endpapers, and two have never been used before. Of course, Beatrix Potter created many memorable children's characters, including Benjamin Bunny, Tom Kitten, Jemima Puddle-duck and Jeremy Fisher. But whatever the tale, both children and adults alike can be delighted by the artistry in Potter's illustrations, while they also enjoy a very good read. Because they have always been completely true to a child's experience, Potter's 23 books continue to endure.

Calvin on the Mediator

Calvin on the Mediator

Calvin on The Mediator is an important reminder to the modern church of the great work accomplished in Institutes of the Christian Religion, Calvin’s masterpiece first published in 1536. It is also timely instruction on the vital doctrine of Christ as our Mediator: His humanity and unbroken divinity, and His offices as Prophet, Priest, and King. Publishing this edition in the 500th anniversary of Calvin’s birth is a milestone deserving every believer’s thoughtful consideration. John Calvin (1509-1564), born in Noyon, Picardie, France, is at once the finest theologian of the Reformation and its most effective teacher. He was used of God together with Luther, Beza, and Knox, to return whole nations to Biblical Christianity. During the course of his ministry in Geneva, lasting nearly twenty-five years, Calvin lectured to theological students and preached an average of five sermons a week. In addition, he wrote a commentary on nearly every book of the Bible as well as numerous treatises on theological topics.

On Christian Teaching (On Christian Doctrine)

On Christian Teaching (On Christian Doctrine)

"On Christian Teaching" or "On Christian Doctrine" is a classic religious exposition by Saint Augustine of Hippo which includes four books that discuss how to interpret and teach the Holy Scriptures. This work is a basic outgrowth of Augustine's early frustrations with interpreting the Scriptures. In interpreting the Scriptures one must decide whether a literal or an allegorical interpretation is most appropriate and Augustine discusses this matter extensively in an effort to help Christian teachers and preachers to discover the truth in the contents of the Scriptures, to teach the truth from the Scriptures, and to defend scriptural truth when it was attacked. This important religious work written around the turn of the 5th century is a must read for all who wish to gain a greater confidence in interpreting Holy Christian Scripture and overcoming the difficulties that lie therein.

The Practice of the Presence of God

The Practice of the Presence of God

The Practice of the Presence of God in Modern English is modern translation of the timeless spiritual classic. Mere Christianity

Mere Christianity

In the classic Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis, the most important writer of the 20th century, explores the common ground upon which all of those of Christian faith stand together. Bringing together Lewis’ legendary broadcast talks during World War Two from his three previous books The Case for Christianity, Christian Behavior, and Beyond Personality, Mere Christianity provides an unequaled opportunity for believers and nonbelievers alike to hear this powerful apologetic for the Christian faith.

The God Delusion

The God Delusion

A preeminent scientist—and the world's most prominent atheist—asserts the irrationality of belief in God and the grievous harm religion has inflicted on society, from the Crusades to 9/11. With rigor and wit, Dawkins examines God in all his forms, from the sex-obsessed tyrant of the Old Testament to the more benign (but still illogical) Celestial Watchmaker favored by some Enlightenment thinkers. He eviscerates the major arguments for religion and demonstrates the supreme improbability of a supreme being. He shows how religion fuels war, foments bigotry, and abuses children, buttressing his points with historical and contemporary evidence. The God Delusion makes a compelling case that belief in God is not just wrong but potentially deadly. It also offers exhilarating insight into the advantages of atheism to the individual and society, not the least of which is a clearer, truer appreciation of the universe's wonders than any faith could ever muster.

Against the Christians

Against the Christians

Against the Christians is a compelling anthology that explores the nuanced and often contentious relationship between pagan philosophy and early Christianity. This collection presents a diverse array of styles ranging from the incisive critiques of philosophical treatises to the historical chronicles of detractors, providing an enriched tapestry of literary contexts. Highlighted within are standout pieces that capture the intellectual fervor of an era grappling with profound ideological shifts, inviting readers to question, explore, and reflect on the cultural vibrancy of the ancient world. This assembly of voices, including eminent figures such as historian Tacitus and philosopher Porphyry, offers a confluence of perspectives that critiques the ascendancy of Christian dogma. Through the incisive prose of these authors, who each stand as pillars of their respective contexts—ranging from Roman historiography to Neoplatonic philosophy—the collection encapsulates the fervent discourse of the time. The contributions are not merely reactions; they serve as a historical reflection on the dynamics between paganism and Christianity, embedded in a wider dialogue of power, belief, and resistance. For those seeking a panoramic view of ancient disputations, Against the Christians provides a rare scholarly opportunity to engage with diverse voices unified under a common theme. It offers readers an invaluable chance to trace the intellectual and cultural currents that shaped our understanding of faith and reason. Through this assemblage, the anthology invites readers to traverse epochs, gaining insight into an era defined by debate and ideological transformation, ensuring a profound and edifying exploration of a pivotal historical landscape.

The present Prayerbook contains the most basic daily prayers of the Orthodox Christian as they have been transmitted to us essentially by the Russian Church, although the other Orthodox Traditions in this matter are very similar. In this book, we will find the Psalms of the Holy Prophet King David, the prayer which Our Lord Himself taught His holy disciples, prayers of the desert fathers, prayers of the great hierarchs and teachers of the Church, as well as the prayers of more recent fathers.
