Damsels In Distress

Damsels In Distress

Whit Stillman’s Damsels in Distress is a wonderfully off-beat comedy about a student, Violet (Greta Gerwig), who seeks to transform life at her college. With friends Rose (Megalyn Echikunwoke) & Heather (Carrie MacLemore) she takes under wing seemingly nice transfer student Lily (Analeigh Tipton) who soon attracts the attentions of both “playboy-operator” Charlie (Adam Brody) & dreamboat grad student Xavier (Hugo Becker) -- but it’s Violet who will end up crushed.

Dragnet (1987)

Dragnet (1987)

This is the city... and only Dan Aykroyd and Tom Hanks can save it in this hilarious box-office blockbuster that pays homage to the famed original police drama of the '50s and '60s. Aykroyd is at his comedic best as the namesake nephew of Detective Sgt. Joe Friday. Like his uncle, he's a blue-suited, by-the-rules cop who reluctantly joins forces with his footloose partner Pep Streebek (Hanks) to rescue the City of Angels from the machinations of a power-mad Reverend and corrupt Police Commissioners. And those are "just the facts" of this hysterically funny action-comedy.

Once a film prodigy full of potential, Carter has nothing but complicated relationships, debt and a 13-year-old passion project that never got off the ground. The President's Analyst

The President's Analyst

The President's Analyst is James Coburn, whose position makes him privy to any number of delicate government secrets. Thus Coburn becomes a most desirable prize for several secret-agent organizations, including the CEA and the FBR (we know who these folks are really supposed to be, even though the phony names were crudely dubbed onto the soundtrack after the film was completed). When Coburn becomes expendable, he finds a pair of strong allies in the form of likeable political assassin Godfrey Cambridge and gay Soviet spy Severn Darden. The main plot involves an insidious, unnamed concern that wishes to harness Coburn's talents in order to brainwash the president — and everyone else in America — into submission. The President's Analyst is a terrific, on-target satire of virtually every sacred cow of the late 1960's; the satire was so potent, in fact, that when the NBC network broadcast the film in the early 1970's, it was compelled to remove the picture's punchline.
