New Moon (1940)

New Moon (1940)

Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy pair up once again in the film version of the popular Sigmund Romberg operetta about a Parisian belle who becomes involved with a political prisoner. In 18th century Louisiana, haughty plantation owner Marianne de Beaumanoir (MacDonald) and her handsome bondservant Charles (Eddy), who is actually a French nobleman in disguise, are thrown together when Charles commandeers a ship carrying Marianne and a cargo of mail-order brides. Romance, adventure--and the French Revolution--ensue. The soaring Romberg musical score includes such favorites as "One Kiss," "Stout-Hearted Men," "Lover Come Back to Me," "Softly as in a Morning Sunrise," and "Wanting You."

Bundle of Joy

Bundle of Joy

When Bundle of Joy premiered in 1956, Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher were the cutest young marrieds in Hollywood, the obvious choice to headline the musical remake of one of the great comedies of the '30s, Bachelor Mother. As the Prince Charming of the piece, Fisher proves that as an actor, he is a pretty good crooner. But Reynolds is warmly appealing in the role originated by Ginger Rogers, playing a salesgirl who picks up a foundling, is mistaken for its unwed mother and must keep up the charade – baby and all – to keep her job. Coincidentally, Reynolds discovered she was pregnant before filming began. In true trouper fashion, she was still hoofing up a storm on the soundstage when she was seven months along.

Blithe Spirit

Blithe Spirit

Blithe Spirit, David Lean’s delightful film version of Noël Coward’s theater sensation (onstage, it broke London box-office records before hitting Broadway), stars Rex Harrison as a novelist who cheekily invites a medium (Margaret Rutherford) to his house to conduct a séance, hoping the experience will inspire a book he’s working on. Things go decidedly not as planned when she summons the spirit of his dead first wife (Kay Hammond), a severe inconvenience for his current one (Constance Cummings). Employing Oscar-winning special effects to spruce up Coward’s theatrical farce, Blithe Spirit is a sprightly supernatural comedy with winning performances.

10 Little Roosters

10 Little Roosters

A festive dinner party spirals into an evening of intrigue and murder for the hapless employees of Rooster Teeth. After one guest is mysteriously killed, the remaining nine must find a way to survive the night... and root out the killer among them. Agatha Christie would, like, love this.

Sidewalks of New York

Sidewalks of New York

A documentary film crew follows the lives of six New Yorkers as their lives unexpectedly intersect — or at least that's what writer, director, and actor Edward Burns would like you to believe in this comedy-drama that looks at the rocky road of relationships in the Big Apple. After sharing the stories of their earliest sexual experiences with an interviewer, six people are trailed by a cameraman through the course of an average day. Tommy (Edward Burns) is a successful television producer (and unsuccessful novelist) who becomes quickly infatuated when he meets Maria (Rosario Dawson) in a video store. Maria is a teacher at an upscale private school who has just gotten out of a bad marriage with Ben (David Krumholtz), a struggling musician with a day job as a doorman. Ben, on the other hand, finds himself attracted to Ashley (Brittany Murphy) when she waits on his table at a coffee shop. Ashley, as it happens, is involved in an affair with Griffin (Stanley Tucci), a dentist who is chronically unfaithful to his wife Annie (Heather Graham). Annie, a real estate agent, also happens to be friends with Tommy, one of her customers, bringing the circle to a close. Shot in only 16 days, Sidewalks of New York marked a return to (relatively) low-budget filmmaking for Edward Burns, who directed two less-than-successful major studio projects following his breakthrough with the independent feature The Brothers McMullen.

Co-starring Barry Corbin ("Northern Exposure") and directed by Eastwood, with a score of great country and western hits.

The Bride Walks Out

The Finellis Movie

The Finellis Movie

Five years after getting out of prison, on the opening night of his comeback Broadway Musical 'Love Will Never Die,' Tony Finelli does an exclusive, one-on-one interview with celebrity reporter Barbara Bischof for 'Hollywood Hotline.' During the course of the interview, Tony looks back at his extraordinarily eventful life. In the 1990s, Tony Finelli, an Italian-American from New York was a star in Europe. He found fame starring in 'ELVIS: The Musical' and together with his ever-present manager, Jürgen Drahtseil, turned that initial success into an international singing career. In 1997, at the height of Tony's fame, Jürgen was approached by an 'Italian Concert Promoter' regarding a big concert for Tony in Sicily. This 'promoter' turned out to be an undercover agent working for the German CIA and leading a secret sting operation to arrest 'Mr. Big' (Godfather of the Gambaretto Mafia Family), who was under investigation in Berlin for both tax evasion and money laundering. In over their heads and caught between the Mafia and the German CIA, Tony and Jürgen were faced with the choice of either going to prison for Mr. Big or having both of their families murdered by the mob. On the day they were released from prison, no one meets them at the gate. Tony returns to his home wanting to rebuild his life. Unbeknownst to Tony, his Russian wife Tina had filed for divorce shortly before his release. The former model and stewardess' reputation had been ruined by the scandal surrounding Tony's arrest. Alone with two children and no income, Tina turned their mansion into a bed and breakfast. Now, as the owner of Tony's former home, she lives there with their two daughters, Lola and Lena, now 27 and 20 years old. Tony's parents, Pete and Bea Finelli as well as his ancient, Sicilian grandmother 'Nonna' live in their own apartment upstairs – four generations of Finellis are living under one roof. Recently, the maintenance man in Tina's boarding house quit. Out of love for his family, Tony Finelli, the proud peacock, swallows his pride and takes over the job, hoping to rebuild his life, restart his career and reconnect with Tina and his children. Like a clumsy Phoenix trying to rise from the ashes, Tony, the eternal optimist, with his manager in tow, set out on a very bumpy journey to reclaim his life, and win back the love and respect of his family. Despite every setback possible, five years after his release from prison, Tony is back on top of the world. Sold-out world tours, a brand-new musical, and perhaps a new love? The Barbara Bischof Interview is the crowning jewel in Tony's amazing 'comeback' story – showing us every pothole that Tony and Jürgen hit on their way back up the road to success.
