Warren

Warren

It was five years ago, in the middle of his meteoric rise through the Chicago improv scene, just before he was ready to move west to pursue his dreams, Warren Cavanee's world suddenly collapsed. His girlfriend Emma, whom he planned to marry, left him and her own pursuit of painting for a more secure lifestyle in the business world of New York. At the same time, his parents announced their divorce, and Warren couldn’t leave his younger brother all by himself in Chicago with the mess. Today, Warren is barely getting by as a barista, slinging coffee to corporate drones and picking up the pieces of his life as his childhood home prepares to be torn down: His father’s vintage Porsche gathers dust in the garage; a symbol of dreams unfulfilled and roads not taken. One fall night, Emma walks into Warren’s coffee shop and back into his life. Although she dreamed of being an artist, Emma is now a hard-working career woman on a stable trajectory, and engaged to Ted Gordon–a successful businessman with all the trappings of what a husband and provider should be. Yet Emma remains ambivalent about her future and the life she really wants. Emma’s return, and Warren's disillusionment at the course she has chosen for her life, inspires him to return to his forgotten passion: the stage. However, as Warren and Emma rekindle their friendship, Warren’s life continues to fall apart. It doesn’t help that his dad, Jack, still lost after the divorce, suddenly loses his job of 35 years, while his mother Claire strikes up a new romance and his younger brother begins to hang with the wrong crowd and slide into a world of drugs. Jack’s mid-life crisis and Warren’s quarter-life crisis collide as Warren struggles to understand his dad’s choices. Warren wants to avoid the mistakes his father made, and decides to take radical action. On the 15th hole of a golf course, Warren finally confronts his father and suddenly, Warren is left facing a decision. Maybe the only thing left to do is take a chance. Maybe the chariot his father never drove off is just waiting for him in the garage. Maybe it's his decision to after all.

The Co(te)lette Film

The Co(te)lette Film

"THE CO(TE)LETTE FILM" is Mike Figgis' cinematographic adaptation of the dance performance by Ann Van den Broek. Women and flesh, beauty and perishableness, raw and fragile. A delirious desire overwhelms the dancers. A desire for physical and mental satisfaction. The dancers go from appeal to sensuality, over lust, fleshness, fame, success, reflection and control, to silence. They are slaves of their own desires while trying to get in control of them. Female bodies in a frenzy. In Co(te)lette, three female dancers are shown in a rather intimate atmosphere, in a chicken-and-egg situation between desire and satisfaction. There is no confrontation, nor rivalry. No story-telling, no solution and no ending. Co(te)lette's story is restless and... empty.

Bear City

Bear City

BearCity is Queer As Folk meets Sex and the City - only with more hair, girth and tons of hot bear-on-bear action! Closet bear-chaser and hot cub Tyler Hall fantasizes about stuffing Santa's stocking and finding a Daddy bear to do more than cuddle. But as he dives into the Bear community, he finds that it can be hard for a hairless guy to get some fuzzy loving. Scene stealers Brent and Fred are the maybe-not-so-monogamous couple who invite him to move in as they figure out how to spice things up. Southern bear-belle Michael struggles to juggle his lover, his job search and his body image issues, but an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction might solve all three. Rakish Roger is the stud-about-town, and he'll pretty much bang anyone with facial hair. That is, until an awesomely awkward encounter at the local bowling alley challenges both his bowling prowess and his bear-loving mojo. Add to that some adorable eye-candy, an indispensable fairy-god-roommate and "stroller meat," and BearCity is a prime cut of movie-beef that will have you laughing to the final frame.

When Akin arrives at the farm, he finds his job. This is what he expected to find. When Sarah opens her legs, she finds someone watching. This is what she expected to find. When Jeremiah opens his mouth, frightening things come out of it. This has come to be expected. But what happens by the creek next to the cow. This was not expected.Director Josephine Decker’s highly acclaimed second feature unfolds with the lyricism and inexorable sense of tragedy of an ancient Appa- lachian murder ballad. Indie icon Joe Swanberg (director of Happy Christmas and Drinking Buddies) delivers a beautifully understated performance as Akin, a soft-spoken farmworker who takes a summer job working for the belligerent, domineering Jeremiah (Robert Longstreet), who lives in incestuous isolation with his daughter. Sophie Traub’s performance as the daughter, Sarah, has the sun-dappled quality of one of Andrew Wyeth’s Helga paintings: hers is a completely innocent and destructive sexuality, overripe to the point of bursting.Thou Wast Mild and Lovely is a highly intimate and subtly erotic thriller inspired by John Steinbeck’s East of Eden and featuring love, death, guns, goats, a farmer, his grown daughter and the secrets they no longer succeed in keeping.
