How does Taylor Robert navigate his way through a dream-like, Jurrasic-sized motocross track built within a vineyard? The Lost

The Lost

Being creative and taking your own path in skiing is one that rings very true with Legs of Steel, so it is an honour to have worked and filmed this year with such a close-knit and handpicked team of riders. This is something that the crew will always strive to have at the heart of the project, and continuing to work with an increasing network of talented friends who you are just as likely to be having a beer with at the house in Innsbruck as you are trusting with your life on some crazy line or feature will always be a priority. This year, along with the regular posse of Bene Mayr, Thomas Hlawitschka, Paddy Graham, Tobi Reindl and Sven Kueenle, come on an adventurous and anarchic voyage to streets of the Ukrainian capital Kiev with Max Hill, Lolo Favre, Frej Jönsson and Antti Ollila. See what skiing Europe's finest backcountry terrain in Davos and Arlberg throws up with the likes of Tobi Tritscher, Tom Leitner and Oscar Scherlin, then venture to British Columbia...firstly with some special 'old boys' and then on the hunt for deeper snow and bigger lines. Undoubtedly, if Legs of Steel was a Rock Band then The LOSt comes in the tradition of a self-titled album release...an act of elegant simplicity that epitomises the alliance and style of the crew.

Ruin and Rose

Ruin and Rose

A surreal future leaves the world without water and consumed by sand: the Big Empty. A group of children survives alone on the edge of the endless desert in the ruin of the now. When a young boy unearths an ancient relic hinting at the lost wonders of winter, he sets off in search of the ghosts that once called the mountains their home. This bold cinematic experience balances stunning skiing with a wild and hopeful journey into the forgotten lands of myth and magic beyond the Empty. Acclaimed writer/director Ben Sturgulewski joins the award-winning team at Matchstick Productions and their two decades of filmmaking expertise to deliver “RUIN AND ROSE,” an epic creative vision brought to life by the talents of the world’s top skiers. Winter landscapes across the planet contrast seamlessly with a thoroughly-crafted story of environmental apocalypse, shot entirely within the otherworldly expanses of Africa’s Skeleton Coast. Unlike anything seen before, the dreamlike setting of this film sparks the imagination of not only action sports enthusiasts, but anyone with a beating heart.

Good Call: A Skimboard Odyssey

Good Call: A Skimboard Odyssey

The Tenth Street Bros 2012 release, Good Call, was dubbed a skimboard odyssey by those that first viewed the film. An odyssey is defined as an intellectual or spiritual quest marked by many changes of fortune and notable experiences. As advertised, journeys made to Brazil, Mexico, Hawaii, South Africa, and California all resulted in near perfect waves and gains of culture and friendship. Highlights include Morgan Just and the super talented locals tearing apart the sidewash of Sununga, Brazil. Bill Bryan floating across the lip of Newport's Wedge on a 1970's inspired wooden skimboard, and the discovery of Snake Bird Point, a wave that lines down one of Mexico's longest point breaks. Watching this movie to get psyched for a session, is without a doubt, a Good Call!

BTV - Bringing the Vibes: A Skimboard Journey

BTV - Bringing the Vibes: A Skimboard Journey

The Tenth Street Bros are Bill and George Bryan - two skimboarders who have seen and done it all. The two grew up at Victoria Beach during the birth of skimboard wave riding, learning from pioneers Chris Hendersen, Tex Haines, and Kurt Westguaard. As teenagers they moved to 10th Street in South Laguna during its heyday. Here, they began recording their skimboarding as a means to watch the footage and improve their skimboarding. Riding the buzz of their first film, Soulag (a movie made on two VCR's in George's bedroom), they decided to step up their production and dropped The Bomb. The Bomb attracted national attention within the board sport community and also aired on many major networks. The Bomb showed the best skimboarders, waves, and camerawork at the time. The bomb squad showed the world the possibilities of skimboarding the large waves found in Cabo San Lucas and Wedge. It would later prove to be the blue print for all skimboard films to follow. The films hysteria incited a riot in fact, during it's Laguna Beach premier. Perhaps most unique to The Bomb, beside the skimboarding, was the presence of the eclectic South Laguna lifestyle. The Tenth Street Bros made being a skimboarder look like so much fun! Through the years, the Tenth Street Bros and friends have continued their role as the rebellious, fun loving crew. Instead of dumping money they did not have to keep up with technology, they have focused on getting people's attention through shock, spontaneity, and plain old fun. These were guys you wanted to hang out with; and you knew you could if you saw them at the beach. The Tenth Street Bros can be credited for getting more people hyped on skimboarding than anyone on this planet. There are countless stories of guys like Grady Archbold or Austin Keen, who didn't start skimboarding until they watched a Tenth Street Bros movie. That leads us to perhaps the most ironic thing about their 2011 release, BTV. The first skimboard movie seen by everyone in the film was a Tenth Street Bros film. The student is now the teacher. Upon acknowledging this fact, and the importance of their films, the brothers are letting the riders become completely involved in this year's production. Helping them choose their songs, clips, or get involved in whatever way they want. What we found out is that every rider approaches skimboarding with a different vibe. So the best way to learn more about the worlds best skimboarders, is to take a look at BTV - Bringing The Vibes.

Sine Qua Non: The Psychology of Big Wave Surfing with Greg Long

Sine Qua Non: The Psychology of Big Wave Surfing with Greg Long

Sine Qua Non: The Psychology of Big Wave Surfing provides an intimate portrait of the mentality, risks, and lifestyle associated with pursuing monstrous waves around the planet through the eyes of the world’s most decorated big wave surfer, Greg Long. The film’s title, Sine Qua Non, is a Latin phrase, which, roughly translated, means, “Without which, [there is] nothing.” Greg Long presents the viewer with a first-hand account of the life-threatening pursuit of big waves as well a look at the horrific wipeouts involved, including one that nearly ended his life. Going deeper, Long admits his pursuit could be viewed as selfish, especially when surrounded by a very close-knit family that is concerned first and foremost about his safety. Winner for the "Best Surf and Ocean Sports" film at the Blue Ocean Film Festival.
