Anthrax: Chile on Hell

Anthrax: Chile on Hell

Get ready to mosh in the privacy of your own home, because multiple Grammy-nominated, Platinum-selling thrash masters ANTHRAX have announced the release of “Chile On Hell”! “Chile On Hell” was filmed at the Teatro Caupolican in Santiago, Chile on May 10, 2013, and features Anthrax - Joey Belladonna/vocals, Scott Ian/guitar, Charlie Benante/drums, Frank Bello/bass and Jon Donais/lead guitar. The band performed an extended set that featured songs from Anthrax’s entire catalogue - all the fan-favorites including “I Am The Law," “Indians,” “Madhouse,” “Caught In A Mosh,” “The Devil You Know," and “I’m Alive”. "Santiago was the perfect place to film the show for this,” said Anthrax’s Charlie Benante. "When we’d played there in the past, we’d finish our set, play our encore and go back to the dressing room, but every time, the fans would continue to scream and cheer and clap. I mean, they went on and on, they wouldn’t stop. One time Scott and I walked out to the side of the stage just to watch what was going on in the audience, it was intense. Why wouldn’t we want to film a DVD in front of an audience like that?" The band was in the home stretch of a three-plus-year campaign to record and support Worship Music and the Anthems EP, a period of time that was loaded with high points: the return of “classic era” vocalist Joey Belladonna, Worship Music making the band’s highest chart debut in two decades, the series of Big Four shows - Anthrax, Slayer and Metallica, the three bands that wrote the speed and thrash metal road map - that culminated in the September 2011 Big Four spectacular at Yankee Stadium in the band’s home town of New York, “Anthrax Day” declared in the Bronx, becoming the first metal band to have its music (“Got The Time”) played on Mars, two Grammy nominations, and sold out shows in every corner of the globe - “We wanted to finish on a high note".

Das Rheingold

Das Rheingold

The head of the gods, Wotan (Bryn Terfel), needs to pay the giants Fasolt and Fafner (Franz-Josef Selig and Hans-Peter König) for building Valhala, the new home for the gods, but doesn’t want to pay the agreed price—Freia (Wendy Bryn Harmer), the goddess of youth. Loge, the god of fire (Richard Croft), tells Wotan about an enormous horde of gold the evil Nibelung Alberich (Eric Owens) has stolen from the Rhinemaidens. By renouncing love and forging a ring from the gold Alberich has become enormously powerful, but Wotan and Loge trick Alberich and take the hoard from him. Enraged, Alberich puts a curse on the ring: it will bring death to anyone who possesses it, a curse that soon costs the giant Fasolt his life. As the gods cross over the rainbow bridge into Valhalla, far below the Rhinemaidens lament the loss of their gold. Conducted by James Levine.

Michael Tilson Thomas: The Thomashefskys

Michael Tilson Thomas: The Thomashefskys

"My grandparents became mega-stars," Michael Tilson Thomas remembers, "and found themselves smack in the public eye. Legions of crazed fans were obsessed with every detail of their work and their lives. It was a far cry from the simple Jewish family life in the Ukrainian villages of their origin." In THE THOMASHEFSKYS, Tilson Thomas explores the lives of his grandparents, Boris and Bessie Thomashefsky, through a musical performance that features five performers and the New World Symphony orchestra. Founding members of the Yiddish Theatre in America, the Thomashefskys owned theatres, published their own magazine, wrote columns in the popular Yiddish newspapers, sponsored and encouraged generations of young artists, brought countless Yiddish artists to America, tirelessly raised funds for progressive social causes and, through it all, were adventurous trendsetters. This story, reclaimed by Thomashefsky Project, presents a musical sound that few have heard, assimilating Eastern European klezmer and cantorial modes with American tones and rhythms. Over time, as the Jewish American music theater writers became absorbed in their new surroundings, they greatly influenced the American Songbook. All of this and more are captured in this stunning performance.

Revered for years by generations of rappers, samplers and funksters, all this high profile media exposure introduced his work to a whole new generation of listeners. Remarkable as his latest live performances were, James Brown was at the height of his considerable powers when the two sensational performances featured were filmed.
