Plum Island

Plum Island

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

CELEBRATING THE 20th ANNIVERSARY WITH A NEW FOREWORD BY THE AUTHOR

Wounded in the line of duty, NYPD homicide detective John Corey convalesces in the Long Island township of Southold, home to farmers, fishermen -- and at least one killer. Tom and Judy Gordon, a young, attractive couple Corey knows, have been found on their patio, each with a bullet in the head. The local police chief, Sylvester Maxwell, wants Corey's big-city expertise, but Maxwell gets more than he bargained for.

John Corey doesn't like mysteries, which is why he likes to solve them. His investigations lead him into the lore, legends, and ancient secrets of northern Long Island -- more deadly and more dangerous than he could ever have imagined. During his journey of discovery, he meets two remarkable women, Detective Beth Penrose and Mayflower descendant Emma Whitestone, both of whom change his life irrevocably. Ultimately, through his understanding of the murders, John Corey comes to understand himself.

Fast-paced and atmospheric, marked by entrancing characters, incandescent storytelling, and brilliant comic touches, Plum Island is Nelson DeMille at his thrill-inducing best.

Reviews
  • Good book - author kept you on your toes

This is my first foray into Nelson DeMille’s books and, of course, the John Corey series. The book was very good as the author had many twist and turns. It was hard to put down. My only issue was that sometimes certain aspects were much longer than I thought they needed to be and that is why I gave it 4 rather than 5 stars. Highly recommend!

  • If you read one DeMille, read this one

I don’t like him, and I gave him a lot of chances. The follow up to this is dog chow. But this book is wonderful. It’s got some of his flaws, but they’re more bearable here, and it’s otherwise witty and well-paced.

  • Tedious

Plum Island is a long, drawn-out murder mystery written with excruciating details about everything - relevant and not. DeMille’s first novel, The Gold Coast, was exactly the same. I guess that is his writing style. I plodded thru this book just to get to the end. Not for me.

  • Plum Island Nelson DeMille

Wounded in the line of duty NYPD Homicide Detective John Corey is convalescing at his uncles house in rural eastern Long Island. Life is good and he is healing from the three bullit wounds he suffered. Then he is approached by the local chief of police involving the murder of two of his neighbors. He is asked to assist on the cause and the bodies continue to pile up. Non stop action, suspense and heartbreak. An excellent read!! My highest recommendation!!
