Typee

Typee

This book in fact, neither literal autobiography nor pure fiction. The author drew his material from his experiences, from his imagination, and from a variety of travel books when the memories of his experiences are inadequate. The three-week stay on which Typee is based takes place over the course of four months in the narrative. It captures extensively on contemporary accounts by Pacific explorers to add cultural detail to what might otherwise have been a straightforward story of escape, capture, and re-escape.

A Little Tour of France

A Little Tour of France

Though the good city of Paris appears to be less in fashion than in other days with those representatives of our race-not always, perhaps, acknowledged as the soundest and stiffest-curious of foreign opportunity and addicted to foreign sojourns, it probably none the less remains true that such frequentations of France as may be said still to flourish among us have as much as ever the wondrous capital, and the wondrous capital alone, for their object.

Endurance

Endurance

The astonishing saga of polar explorer Ernest Shackleton's survival for over a year on the ice-bound Antarctic seas, as Time magazine put it, "defined heroism." Alfred Lansing's scrupulously researched and brilliantly narrated book -- with over 200,000 copies sold -- has long been acknowledged as the definitive account of the Endurance's fateful trip. To write their authoritative story, Lansing consulted with ten of the surviving members and gained access to diaries and personal accounts by eight others. The resulting book has all the immediacy of a first-hand account, expanded with maps and illustrations especially for this edition.

L'Odore dell'India

L'Odore dell'India

The White Darkness

The White Darkness

The White Darkness raconte son extraordinaire histoire.
