Sunny Memories of Foreign Lands, Volume 2

Surrey Chapel and parsonage were the church and residence of the celebrated Kowland Hill. At present the incumbent is the Rev. Mr. Sherman, well known to many of our American clergy by the kind hospitalities and attentions with which he has enriched their stay in London. The church maintains a medium rank between Congregationalism and Episcopacy, retaining part of the ritual, but being independent in its government.

Travels in Alaska

Travels in Alaska

In 1879 John Muir went to Alaska for the first time. Its stupendous living glaciers aroused his unbounded interest, for they enabled him to verify his theories of glacial action. Again and again he returned to this continental laboratory of landscapes. The greatest of the tide-water glaciers appropriately commemorates his name. Upon this book of Alaska travels, all but finished before his unforeseen departure, John Muir expended the last months of his life.

Liège (Belgium) - Wink Travel Guide

Liège (Belgium) - Wink Travel Guide

Liège is the largest city of Wallonia, the French-speaking part of Belgium, and the capital city of the namesake province. The central area of Liège presents itself as a rather interesting mix of a historic town centre (dotted with a few extremely brutalist buildings from the 1960s and 70s), a rather elegant new town with wide boulevards, tall apartment buildings (some Art Deco), narrow street with small businesses, a few pretty parks, and a few interesting shopping arcades. Liège is located just at the beginning of the Ardennes, which makes the landscape of the south very different than the rest of the city, with high hills and abundant forests (Sart-tilman and beyond).Wink Travel Guides introduce you to the best world travel destinations, in a clear and concise way, illustrated by photos.

Forgotten Footprints

Forgotten Footprints

A mix of history, geography, myth, and personal truth, this book explores the Antarctic Peninsula, the South Shetland Islands, and the Weddell Sea—the most visited places in Antarctica. Filled with beautiful photographs by the author from his travels, this record offers a selection of anecdotal accounts of the merchantmen, navy men, sealers, whalers, and aviators who, along with scientists and adventurers, drew the first ghostly maps of the white continent. It delves into the heads and hearts of those who were driven to discover the unknown land and is ideal for the armchair traveler who wants to explore the continent’s past and present.

Slow Travels--Arkansas

Slow Travels--Arkansas

Slow Travels--Arkansas is the first in our new Slow Travels series. U.S. Highways 61, 67, 70, 71, and 79 are followed through Arkansas, criss-crossing the state and providing a wealth of historical information along the way. Eight maps provide reference points along the way. The Slow Travels series encourages the driving tourist to take the slower paced route, and see the rich history which lies along that highway. Not only are the more popular sites examined, but you are also shown the many places in between those sites which are most often overlooked. 90% of our history is either distinguished by only a marker or no marker at all. That is the history most travelers are missing, and that is what the purpose of Caddo Publications USA is, to bring that missing history to everyone's attention.

A Cook's Tour

A Cook's Tour

From the host of Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown and bestselling author of Kitchen Confidential, this wonderful book sees Bourdain travelling the world discovering exotic foods. Dodging minefields in Cambodia, diving into the icy waters outside a Russian bath, Chef Bourdain travels the world over in search of the ultimate meal. The only thing Anthony Bourdain loves as much as cooking is traveling, and A Cook's Tour is the shotgun marriage of his two greatest passions. Inspired by the question, 'What would be the perfect meal?', Anthony sets out on a quest for his culinary holy grail. Our adventurous chef starts out in Japan, where he eats traditional Fugu, a poisonous blowfish which can be prepared only by specially licensed chefs. He then travels to Cambodia, up the mine-studded road to Pailin into autonomous Khmer Rouge territory and to Phnom Penh's Gun Club, where local fare is served up alongside a menu of available firearms. In Saigon, he's treated to a sustaining meal of live Cobra heart before moving on to savor a snack with the Viet Cong in the Mecong Delta. Further west, Kitchen Confidential fans will recognize the Gironde of Tony's youth, the first stop on his European itinerary. And from France, it's on to Portugal, where an entire village has been fattening a pig for months in anticipation of his arrival. And we're only halfway around the globe. . . A Cook's Tour recounts, in Bourdain's inimitable style, the adventures and misadventures of America's favorite chef.
