Tao Te Ching

Tao Te Ching

The Tao Te Ching is fundamental to the Taoist school of Chinese philosophy and strongly influenced other schools, such as Legalism and Neo-Confucianism. This ancient book is also central in Chinese religion, not only for Taoism but Chinese Buddhism, which when first introduced into China was largely interpreted through the use of Taoist words and concepts. Many Chinese artists, including poets, painters, calligraphers, and even gardeners have used the Tao Te Ching as a source of inspiration. Its influence has also spread widely outside East Asia, aided by hundreds of translations into Western languages.

The God We Never Knew

The God We Never Knew

How to have faith—or even think about God—without having to stifle modern rational thought is one of the most vital challenges facing many of us today. Marcus J. Borg, author of the bestselling Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time, traces his personal spiritual journey to the discovery of an authentic yet fully contemporary understanding of God. In a compelling, readable way, he leads us from the distant, authoritarian God of our childhood to an equally powerful, dynamic adult image of God—"the beyond in our midst," the life spirit that is within us and all around us—that reconciles faith with science, history, critical thinking, and religious pluralism.

Hope Today

Hope Today

Hope is not about uncertain possibility. There is a robust sense of hope: something has happened, and it has happened in a certain way. This volume addresses the question: What is the way of Christian hope? What does it mean to act with hope? And in particular, what does it mean to act, to live, with hope in our churches and in society today?

The Mortification of Sin

The Mortification of Sin

He was briefly a member of parliament for the University, sitting in the First Protectorate Parliament of 1654 to 1655.

How to Know God

How to Know God

You don't have to believe in God in order to experience God.--- Deepak ChopraThe celebrated author of Ageless Body, Timeless Mind and The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success has written his most ambitious and important work yet, a runaway international bestseller that has inspired hundreds of thousands of readers to rethink their concept of God.According to Chopra, the brain is hardwired to know God. The human nervous system has seven biological responses that correspond to seven levels of divine experience. These are shaped not by any one religion (they are shared by all faiths), but by the brain's need to take an infinite, chaotic universe and find meaning in it. How to Know God describes the quest each of us is on, whether we realize it or not. For, as Chopra puts it, "God is our highest instinct to know ourselves." This book makes a dramatic and enduring contribution to that knowledge.

David J. Galloway, ex-presidente do Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow

The Doctrine and Practice of Infant Baptism

The Doctrine and Practice of Infant Baptism

John Brinsley (1600-1665) was a Presbyterian puritan divine who was a powerful Reformed Gospel preacher and writer. In this masterful work, Brinsley teaches the doctrinal nature and the practical side of baptism. He says, "They to whom belongs the kingdom of God, who are subjects and members of the kingdom of grace, and heirs of the kingdom of glory, have right to this seal of the covenant, by which it may be confirmed and sealed to them." This statement provides the ammunition needed to defend the Gospel of Christ's covenant, against those who would twist such a string of covenant pearls found in the bible which could never be unstrung. It is the biblical substance which ushers in true reform that only full covenant theologians, who are the only thorough Reformers, could accomplish for a full exposition of the Bible. This work is not a scan or facsimile, has been carefully transcribed by hand being made easy to read in modern English, and has an active table of contents for electronic versions.

Mindful Eating

Mindful Eating

Common sense tells us that to lose weight, we must eat less and exercise more. But somehow we get stalled. We start on a weight loss program with good intentions but we cannot stay on track. Neither the countless numbers of fad diets, nor the annual spending of $50 billion on weight loss efforts are helping us feel better or lose weight. With Mindful Eating, world-renowned Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh and Harvard nutritionist Dr. Lilian Cheung join together to show us how to end our struggles with weight once and for all.

A Christian’s True Spiritual Worship to Jesus Christ

A Christian’s True Spiritual Worship to Jesus Christ

Stephen Charnock (1628-1680) was a Gospel preacher, widely respected for lecturing on the existence and attributes of God. From John 4:24, “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth,” Charnock shows that the nature of God and the prescription of his will alone (only found in the Scriptures) informs us what kind of worship is to be presented to him. The pillars on which the worship of God stands cannot be discerned without divine revelation. True worship, then, must be conformed to the rule and pattern of God's will and pleasure, revealed in his holy word. It must have truth for its substance, and spirit for its manner, otherwise, it is not worship with which the Father will be pleased. Annexed is, "A Short and Full Vindication of that Sweet and Comfortable Ordinance of Singing of Psalms," by Jonathan Clapham (1611-1676), a biblical treatment of psalmody in a short tract. This is not a scan, and made easy to read in modern English.
