The Emerging Christian Minority

The Emerging Christian Minority

An increase in secularization throughout the Western world has resulted in Christian communities finding themselves in a new context: emerging as a minority group. What does this changing landscape mean for existing Christian communities? Are there biblical or historical precedents for this situation? What should we expect in the future? These were the issues taken up by the speakers at the 2016 conference, "The Emerging Christian Minority," sponsored by the Center for Catholic and Evangelical Theology. Who Is the Holy Spirit?

Who Is the Holy Spirit?

The person and work of the Holy Spirit spark much interest these days—but also much confusion. Many do not fully understand who the Spirit is or how He works in our lives. Some people even claim that the Spirit speaks to them apart from the Bible. In this booklet, Dr. R.C. Sproul cuts through the confusion by going to Scripture. After explaining who the Holy Spirit is, Dr. Sproul briefly sketches His work in this world, from giving new life to unbelievers to sanctifying and empowering God’s people. The Crucial Questions booklet series by Dr. R.C. Sproul offers succinct answers to important questions often asked by Christians and thoughtful inquirers.

The Silent Life

The Silent Life

Thomas Merton wrote The Silent Life a decade after he took orders. In his Prologue, Merton describes the book as "a meditation on the monastic life by one who, without any merit of his own, is privileged to know that life on the inside . . . who seeks only to speak as the mouthpiece of a tradition centuries old." It is a remarkable work-one that combines a lucid and informative description of the nature and forms of monasticism, communal and solitary, with a passionate defense of the contemplative's quest for God. The intense beauty of Merton's meditation, radiating from beneath its surface calm, makes The Silent Life a classic of its kind.

God's Purpose of Grace

God's Purpose of Grace

God’s Purpose of Grace magnifies the grace of God in its fullness and blessedness, for both the seasoned saint and the seeker. Grace is all the more glorious in light of man’s tremendous need, without hope and without God in this world. But this need, with no merit in ourselves, is but the opening for God to pour forth His grace freely and abundantly. God’s love and justice in shedding the lifeblood of His only Son and His holiness in honoring His law are but aspects of the beauty of His grace. Bonar concludes with a clear presentation of gospel grace and how those without Christ may be joined to Him by grace through faith alone.

The Religious Affections

The Religious Affections

"The Religious Affections" is a classic Christian theological work written by Jonathan Edwards, a prominent American preacher and theologian in the 18th century. Published in 1746, this book is considered one of Edwards' most influential and enduring writings. In "The Religious Affections," Jonathan Edwards explores the nature of true Christian spirituality and religious experiences. He examines the various emotions, feelings, and affections that individuals may experience in their religious lives and seeks to distinguish genuine spiritual experiences from mere emotional or superficial ones. Edwards argues that authentic religious affections are marked by a deep and abiding love for God, a profound sense of humility and dependence on divine grace, and a commitment to virtuous and righteous living. One of the central themes of the book is the idea that true conversion and religious experiences should result in a transformed life and a genuine devotion to God. Edwards emphasizes the importance of discerning the sincerity of one's religious affections and warns against relying solely on emotional or sensational experiences as evidence of true faith. "The Religious Affections" is known for its intellectual rigor and deep theological insights. It played a significant role in shaping American religious thought during the Great Awakening, a period of intense religious revival in the American colonies. Edwards' work continues to be studied and respected by theologians, scholars, and Christians interested in the nature of religious experience and the relationship between emotion and faith.

Vita comune

Vita comune

Secret Power

Secret Power

Dwight L. Moody believed that the power of the Holy Spirit had been too much overlooked, as though it were not practical. He wrote, "The result is lack of power in testimony and work. If we would work, 'not as one that beats the air," but to some definite purpose, we must have this power from on high. Without this power, our work will be drudgery. With it, it becomes a joyful task, a refreshing service. May God make this book a blessing to many. This is my prayer."  Pure Gold Classic Revised into modern English Rare photos from the Moody family album Biography Index

The Mother of God

The Mother of God

New York Times bestselling author and pastor Timothy Keller concludes his Encounters with Jesus eBook series with The Mother of God, an exploration of the Annunciation and how Mary’s reaction to her blessing can help us grow in our understanding of Christianity. By examining her response to the angelic announcement, Timothy Keller, pastor of New York’s Redeemer Presbyterian Church and New York Times bestselling author of The Reason for God, sheds light on the uniqueness of this central fact of Christianity. He illustrates how deep her doubts were, how helpful her response was to those facing similar doubts, and how Mary in that moment shows us to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.

John Calvin’s View of God’s Love and the Doctrine of Reprobation

John Calvin’s View of God’s Love and the Doctrine of Reprobation

This new work explains the relationship between God’s love and the reprobation of the wicked, aiding the reader to understand more simply the view of the Reformation’s brightest Reformer, John Calvin (1509-1564). In this analysis of Calvin’s view, McMahon explores Calvin’s thoughts concerning reconciling God’s love and the damnation of the reprobate. He explains Calvin’s doctrine of accommodation, centering on understanding the difference between the will of God’s decree and the precepts of God’s word. Also analyzed is Calvin’s view of God’s province as Supreme Ruler over creation, Calvin’s view of hardening the reprobate’s heart, and his view of the Gospel call when the reprobate are called to repent and believe the Gospel. McMahon is an American Calvinist Reformed theologian and adjunct professor at Whitefield Theological Seminary. He is the founder of A Puritan's Mind and Puritan Publications which publishes Reformed and Puritan works from the 17th century.

Christless Christianity

Christless Christianity

Is it possible that we have left Christ out of Christianity? Is the faith and practice of American Christians today more American than Christian? These are the provocative questions Michael Horton addresses in this thoughtful, insightful book. He argues that while we invoke the name of Christ, too often Christ and the Christ-centered gospel are pushed aside. The result is a message and a faith that are, in Horton's words, "trivial, sentimental, affirming, and irrelevant." This alternative "gospel" is a message of moralism, personal comfort, self-help, self-improvement, and individualistic religion. It trivializes God, making him a means to our selfish ends. Horton skillfully diagnoses the problem and points to the solution: a return to the unadulterated gospel of salvation.

In this Puritan Reformed classic, John Owen uncovers the true and deep nature of sin in the life of a believer. The Categories

The Categories

The Categories' is one of Aristotle's most discussed and revised notions. It places every object of human apprehension under one of ten categories known to medieval writers as predicaments. Aristotle intended them to enumerate everything that can be expressed without composition or structure, thus anything that can be either the subject or the predicate of a proposition.
